Thanks Mark. Geez, JLC are getting slow (I've actually received PCBs on a Sunday - DHL. Was very impressed) Did you get a different colour than green? They claim they need more time for the other colours. |

The FOD3182 is more suitable if you plan to run +12v gate driver power supplies. The undervoltage shut down operates within a lower voltage range that is more compatible with a 12v supply. The TLP250 and HCLP3120 are better with +15v supplies, although may(?) still work with 12v, but its a bit dodgy. Worst state startup voltage can be up to +13.5v with the HCLP. All are directly pin compatible. Cheers, Tony. |

DHL delivered on Sunday afternoon! F me, pretty good service. Anyway got the boards, they look good. So this will be the layout. Three power boards for No1, 1 full driver and 2 half driver boards. One power board for No 2 full driver board. No3&4 both have 2x Warp half driver boards. So when the driver boards are plugged in properly above the power boards they look like this. I have used the HCPL3120 for years, its an ancient chip, sill have about thirty of them in a drawer here. But I too will get some of those FOD3182 chips, as 15 volts dc seems to be going out of fashion for some strange reason. Cheers, Tony. |

Hey guys, just noticed one of my caps came with a dent on it, probably only pushed in by 1mm. I have never used a cap with any damage before, is this anything to be worried about? Hey Andrew, what is that insulating material you used there mate? I thought I would use this old ladder that has sat behind the shed for 10 years, that should manage the heat ok yeah? Looking Good Mark Thanks for the compliment. I'm glad that capacitor fits ok, boy it really makes a 100mm PCB look small Those plastic insulators are 3D printed. That Ladder fibreglass would be far superior, but geez that those ladders are worth a bit. I'm happy to print some spacers up but they may not fit your job. I cut up plastic containers and all sorts of things when I first put it together. I've not even got my heatsink warm yet, 500 watts just doesn't do it. The insulators are only needed for the smaller bridges so I don't expect them to get overly warm. And that is because they are not rigidly mounted. I have a big 3D printer going now, so If I did it now I'd make one big plastic unit to go under the last two bridges. I'll probably shut the inverter down if it reaches 60 something degrees C so the plastic bits should be ok. Cheers Andrew |

Yeah, the cap fits perfectly in the holes, thanks for doing that. That ladder is just a fold out A frame, not a nice extension one. Never get much selling it, so better off using it for something worthwhile myself. The heatsinks will need something fairly sturdy to hold them, as they will be fitted vertically on a draw slide that will go in a locker. Haven't worked out that design yet, was about to cut an aerosharp heatsink down yesterday, but it started to rain. When all the bits are at hand some ideas will come to mind, was thinking something like a rectangular roof truss type layout of the fibreglass to support it all. This unit will cop a decent hiding, my wife has no idea of spreading out loads, I have given up trying to educate her, just now she put the kettle, toaster and microwave on all at the same time. Just trying to plan out how this will all fit. Unfortunately due to my big capacitors they block the negative input pads. I would prefer to use a copper bar anyway, but it can't fit, unless the big cap pads get moved. So Andrew, sorry to be a major pain in the ass, but could you move the pads left 8mm and down 8mm?
