Here's the box of magnets.

They are 50mm dia by 12m thick ( 2 inch by half inch ). I have to say, these things are dangerous to handle, you need to think about every move you make.

This weekend I'll temporarily fit them to the alternator plates and wind a test coil

Glenn

i totally agree with u!

very impressive Glen
keep up the top work, its a real Gem when someone can be as open about a serious project like this and share their achievements, i'd imagine this thread will have a world wide audience and if performance of the mill is anything like the 10 turn test coil then a serious powerhouse it will be, no longer will people be building the traditional AXFX mill out there but they will be building yours!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm working on this thing as time allows, I do wish I could put more effort into it, as I know a lot of people are waiting to see it come together, especially me

Fact is it might take a few months. I've had a lot on my plate, but things are starting to sort themselves out. Long story short. Late last year I moved into a rental house while my place was on the market. I was told at the time it should only take a couple of months to sell. Wrong! 6 months later, paying a mortgage on one place and rent on another was more than I earned, I decided to take the place off the market and rent it out, I figured it would give me 6 months to recover financially. Tennant and his pregnant girlfriend moved in and started paying rent. 2 Months later the rent stopped, I found out the girlfriend popped out the baby, and took off, leaving the baby behind! So the poor tenant had to raise an infant. He then lost his job and car. So I agreed to release him from his 6 month rental agreement. I had no choice but to put the place back on the market, try to get it sold as financially I was going backward very fast. I took 25k off the price.

Tennant couldn't find anywhere to live, weeks past his vacate date, still not paying rent, so we went to court. Court gave him 5 days to leave, that came and went. Meanwhile I found a buyer for the property. $25k less than I wanted, $15k less than I needed, but I'm sick if it and just want to move on. Waiting for police to visit the tenant and escort him off the property, but today I heard he has left
Tomorrow we do an inspection to see what needs to be fixed and cleaned, but I dont think there will be any problems. I did see the place while the tenant was there and he was very clean living, just fell on hard times.

All I can say is I'm glad I was dealing with a rental company, and I also took out landlord insurance. I'll get the rent owing, but I will never ever rent out a property every again The whole rental and realestate business is nasty.

So like I said, its starting to sort out. Then I can get back into building the axial flux

Hi Glenn

Glad to hear that you have got things s0rted out now, lucky you had the appropriate insurance, may owners don't do that and really suffer financial hardship.

We had a real estate office in Brisbane and are well aware of the problem and the positive bias toward the tennant at the detriment of the owner of the property, its very bad in Brisbane now as in most big cities. It is a heartbreaking job evicting a family from the house but it must be done.

All the best

Glen

Yeah it's been tough all around. I've been working my brains out to stay ahead of the tax man, mortgage, gas, food, tution and all the other bills. My women lost her job about a year ago so guess who get's to pay her way.

I give you tons of credit on your AxFx build especially when tings have been so tough.
Looks like your new alternator will be a real gem. A mill that will produce some serious KWH. I am envious.
Job well done my friend.

Sorry to hear of your rental problems. But it is good to hear it is over now.

Went up there yesterday and the tenant has moved on. House is clean and undamaged, he did leave a old fridge, washing machine ( not a F&P ) and ping pong table for me though

Does anyone know how to calculate the attraction force of these magnets? It would be interesting to work out the forces between the two plates.

Them magnets look fantastic. I'd be scared of em too.

Oh well, at least the guy didn't trash the house, I guess that was the only good thing out of the whole experience....

No idea but maybe ask Kathy at Risheng Magnets if there is a table thats applicable.

I would be interestsd to know the calc to.

Some Usable numbers on magnetic strength.
For those who are interested in building a Generator the Link here is a Calculator
giving the force values in 3 different applications.
Its easy to use and in plain English, just enter your magnet dimensions and type or grade.
Great work Glen,,

Thanks Greenbelt, thats a cool calculator.

I typed in my N50 magnet figures of 50mm diameter, 12mm thick and 20mm apart, and got a figure of 16.8lb, or 7.6kg, magnet to magnet attraction. I have 12 pairs, so that means 201 lb, or 92kg.

Thats not as much as I thought, which is a good thing. If I bring the magnets closer together, just for fun, it gets interesting. At 10mm apart, its 420lb, or 190kg. At 5mm its 660lb, or 299kg. At 1mm apart its 1080lb, 489kg!

Wow.

GiZMO;

The forces between Mag's will likely Vary when the Gen is operating (Reactance)Push-Pull, most likely less.

I realize the dimension needs to be finalized before this can be done but I would like to see a counter bore and pipe standoff at your magnet plate spacer bolts.

This For sure will add to the complexity of building but I have built assemblies that used threaded rod and nuts as standoff or spacers and they wind up skewed after a few tear downs. I believe the Rotor balance will be a problem if the rear magnet plate moves. Just passing along one of My many goof up's.

Glen, What you have put together is very impressive , There is no Duct Tape or Tinfoil
in this Machine...

This is the new windmill so far, impressive isn't it....

Hello Gizmo,
I'm interested in the hub from your post as shown on the picture. I'm also working on a windmill project and need the hub part. Can you tell me where you have ordered this part? Thanks!
