Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Thanks for picking that up. I use Visio diagrams embedded in Word documents and novaPDF to "print" the Word document. Somewhere something is loosing part of the diagram (I suspect novaPDF). I will investigate and endeavour to fix it in the final version of the manual. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Geoff, Visio Embedded in Word losing details when converting to PDF: Is this link any use to resolving the issue? If you read the comments by people then in particular look at Betty's answer as several people said it fixed their Visio embedded in Word issue of dropping labels/characters . . . The 'pF' is inserted as an image. If you copy the image and paste it into paint, it appears as black and white text. I use PDF995 for my PDF printer. You can download a demo version which prints a watermark or, provided my ancient Word 2003 can read you version, I am happy to test it here. PDF995 is about $20US for a suite of related apps. http://www.pdf995.com/ Jim VK7JH MMedit  MMBasic Help |

Lads, I use DoPDF it works extremely well, fast and has high quality/large size or low quality/small size options and best of all its free. Even at low quality It generally creates excellent PDF files. Also I use Nuance PDF reader and those visio glitches Rob mentioned show up as a barely readable smear.. I would not have seen them if I didnt know they were there Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

I use PrimoPDF for my virtual PDF printer/creator or use Word 2013 PDF output if working in Word. I use PDF-XChange Viewer (free) as a replacement for Adobe Reader. They also have a free PDF editor which I am investigating. |

Try this version: http://geoffg.net/temp/Micromite%20Manual.pdf It seems to work OK in my PDF reader (Foxit) but I am interested if it is also OK in other PDF readers. The clue was from Phil and the forum that he referenced. By fiddling with the scaling of images in novaPDF I was able to get all the text to display. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Nitro PDF Creator (free) has printed files to a PDF for me that other converters would not. Lots of features and customization. CutePDF is another free PDF printer |

Opened with IE and Adobe Reader X. The suspect "pF" shows clearly in black. |

Looks good in xpdf on Linux. Errata suggestions: p5 "loose access" -> "lose access" p10 "as useful" -> "useful" p10 "re apply it again" -> either "re-apply it" or "apply it again" p12 I suspect the function should consistently be FORMAT() or else FORMAT$() p13 "WAKEUP pin a" -> "WAKEUP pin as a" p14 "control prompt" -> "command prompt" p21 drop the final "s" in "connected to a SERVO I/O pins." p24 "loose its position" -> "lose its position" p27 "Long pauses" -> "Long pulses" p32 "may terminated" -> "may be terminated" p32 it would be helpful to say how to get a double quote into a string constant p61 "another to reading" -> "another for reading" It would be worth sticking either to Schmidt or to Schmitt. (I decided not to mention usage of less / fewer.) John |

now readable in acrobat reader, although the text on the diagrams is pretty chewed-up looking in places. geoff: you might like to try saving your graphics as "windows metafile (.wmf)" objects, and using these in your word document. i've a feeling i've done this before to get around some rendering issues. visio should be able to either save as a .wmf file, or if not then export to .wmf. it has been a couple of years sincle i last used visio. also, all you want to do can be accomplished using open office: OO Writer instead of MSword, OO Draw instead of visio. and OO Writer can then export as a .PDF file. not suggesting you change over at this stage, but worth thinking about in future. and another little bug: do a search for I2C and you will find a couple or three places where the "2" should be a superscript but is not. the first is in the labelling of pin 1 of the 44-pin 32MX on page 7. rob :-) |

Thanks John and Rob. I especially liked "loose" vs "lose" - my spelling is terrible and I depend on the spelling check in Word which can give you a false sense of security. This little ditty (which is circulating on the Internet) will pass a spelling checker: Eye halve a spelling chequer It came with my pea sea It plainly marques four my revue Miss steaks eye kin knot sea. Eye strike a quay and type a word And weight four it two say Weather eye am wrong oar write It shows me strait a weigh. As soon as a mist ache is maid It nose bee fore two long And eye can put the error rite It's rare lea ever wrong. Eye have run this poem threw it I am shore your pleased two no It's letter perfect awl the weigh My chequer tolled me sew. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

One seemingly little issue that often causes grief when users copy and paste code from the manual is the smart quotes which MS Word loves to use. This from page 25 IF PIN(23) = 1 THEN PRINT “High”
will print 0 I have added the option to replace smart quotes in MMedit2 and I think I will add it to the current MMedit as well. Jim VK7JH MMedit  MMBasic Help |

If users wish to turn off Word's Smart Quotes here is how in the later versions. In your version, get to Options then select Proofing ==> Auto Correct Options ==> AutoFormat as you type and in the section Replace as you type, un-tick the box as shown in the image. |

Geoff - v funny, hadn't seen that before! You don't have bad spelling at all. It's tough to write good doc, concentrating on the content and yet get every other pesky language detail right. It's also hard to proof read one's own work, even if time allows which I doubt it has in the umite case. John |

an invaluable tool i use all the time, and recommend to others, is a little popup dictionary called WordWeb. when you strike a word you're not sure of, highlight it and press the hotkey sequence (i use ctrl-f10) and it pops up a definition, or if misspelt a list of alternatives. it has a free version, that can be found here: http://wordweb.info/free/ hint: when asked about your air travel, the answer to the question is always "NO". it asks the question again once a year. enjoy, rob :-) |
