Thanks Sparkey. You know, in the world today, if you have Air express access you can do a business to the entire world from just about anywhere. Thankfully I do not. Keeps out most of the rif raf.

Check out Dakota Alert WR 3000 receivers and their IR motion sensors. Most of these individual pieces and others like them with perhaps even longer wireless range run about $100 bucks each. I can't see why a small LCD display of triggered events with access to an historic list of previously triggered events (access data logged file with page up and page down buttons) would have trouble selling in the neighborhood of $200 USD, maybe even $250.

Hi Pete,

Here is a hopefully understandable ascii art circuit that should all you need :

Across the top is the connector on your WR3000, I had a quick google and apparently it has for relays corresponding to the four zones connected to it. Connect to the common and normally open (normally open) connector for the desired zone.
Across the bottom are pins on the Maximite IO port.
Use for example pin 10 and connect a 4.7K (approx) resistor from that pin to a gnd pin, pin 10 has a ground pin just next to it, this "pulls" pin 10 "low' IE to gnd or 0 volts, then connect the pin 10 end of the resistor to the com or common connector on your wr3000 zone. Then connect a wire from the 5 volt pin on the maximite 26 pin connector to the NO (normally open) side of the zone connector you are using.

It is necessary to connect the pin to gnd to stop it from "floating" ie when connected to nothing ,it is susceptible to noise and random false triggers.
Now in use this circuit pulls pin 10 to gnd voltage until an event causes your wr3000 to close the contact on that zone, then when it closes this will connect 5volts to pin 10 causing it to go "high" and triggering an interrupt in the software I posted above.

PS. If it turns out you have more zones, which it sounds like you may, than available pins on the maximite there are techniques that would allow you to still connect them all. but this is a basic start which should help you get an understanding of the principals.Edited by Vikingboy 2011-11-08
