The Software is not available yet but it is in a very advanced stage, but there is still some testing and verification to do - mainly bells and whistles (nice little features) so it may be another week or two before it is available to distribute. Mike FYI my boards arrived yesterday but I was not home so at local PO. The boards for Poland were ordered after ours and they travelled to Poland Via France - he has them as of yesterday. Your boards were picked up by Aramex on 10/3 and the Camel train is still in transit from Sydney to Brisbane according to tracking which has not updated since 11/3. Bryan and others, the first order of boards is still prototype proving and testing. I am not ready to pull the pin and place a large order, despite my confidence that it will have no issues. The main power board is proven, the Rev5 controller worked and with a few mods could drive the LCD fine. Rev6 has a better layout with all connectors and adjustment Pots labelled and to the edges of the board (Except the front Panel ribbon connector) and I expect the board to work fine. So there is no fear of missing out there will be a post here soon hopefully, saying it is a goer and asking for quantities from everyone. The early post was tve a heads up of what we were doing and to also to find out how much interest there was for others who might be interested to build one up. If you would be willing to post boards to the UK (?), i would like to express an interest in a set or two of boards please: one as inverter and the other as a variac. Not that i need another project - i still haven't finished my 2nd of poidas 150v 45a MPPTs - but it's almost there. |

Thanks for confirmation, yes I noticed the extra drive, I figured that with the input waveform, the slight variation in Logic voltages would not be a problem, also looks a faster chip. Cheers. It's all too hard. Mike. |

I just realised the second part of your question about 74HC86, my Rev5 board had buffer transistors so a 74HC86 should not be used -it is only recommended for 5-6mA loads, The earlier schematic may have shown HC86 but the recently posted 6 PDFs of BOM, ASSY abd Scematic should be used. You're correct the early version I built has 74HC86, I vaguely remember discussing that with you. I think it's me bringing up that previously used part that caused a confusion I wondered why I had 20 new SN74AC86N chips in one of my part bins in my IC section, and yes, your new V6 BOM is of course correct . I guess it was the case when I ordered, but there are three selections where I ordered. 1. The screws only, 2.the terminals only and 3. the terminals with the screws. The $10.10 only gets you the screws, $24 per both.No matter how careful you try to be they get you when you least expect it.Anyway I have ten 6mm screws. PS. I see how its done now. When you first click into the item it shows a picture of the terminals with the screws and price of $10.10 but the default selected item is just the screws. If you add to cart from there you are none the wiser until just the screws turn up. If you click on the three available selections the picture and prices and item are in sync and you become aware of the three different options. Do you want another 10 shiny screws to go with yours ? I reckon there is a shipping department with that supplier that rolls around laughing when they get an order of 10 expensive screws and exorbitant shipping. You would think that they should make it easy to order the right thing rather than the other way around. In the ad they could say buy screws or terminals separately or combined. The trouble is the correct big picture on the left has an assembled pair but underneath are other pictures of the separate pieces. when you go to buy it is for a separate default smaller picture - HA! got another one Leave the screws nearby to your computer like I do, as a good reminder to be really careful buying from dear old Ali. Quick update. The Rev 6 Nano Inverter controller software is coming along fine just a few more wrinkles to iron out. But I am nervous to place orders yet incase there are any hardware changes required to help make the software work as required. I decided to create a separate PCB for the Variac it was about the same amount of work compared to creating the special build documentation from the Nano Rev6. And of course if either board needs an update it would affect both boards, so not the best plan. I sent the Variac controller out for prototype manufacture today. Once confirmed that the prototype works it will be ready to order. It should be good for at least 2.5kW. I will start a spreadsheet shortly to keep track of orders/requests, and I will post the list soon in a future update to this thread with the requests I have already received. The Variac needs 4 boards in total, a controller board a FET driver/Capacitor board, a FET PCB plus a small serial LCD interface PCB. I will also throw in a current transformer with an order for the set of 4, which I expect will be less than $10 including delivery to you within Australia. For extra sets sent at the same time allow another ~$6. Final price will be determined by JLPCB & Delivery costs. For overseas purchasers pm me for your pricing please - you wont be disappointed. Just to clarify please dont send requests to order just yet. I expect in another 2 or 3 weeks max I will have proven the prototype and be ready to accept orders. Long delay since my last update. Home/life/other duties pulled me away from the project for nearly two weeks, but hopefully a few straight days to finish it off now. The new controller board that apart from myself, KeepIS and Dex have also built up and it appears to be working well. There have been a few minor tweaks in hardware and software but we are probably at the stage of being ready to order a quantity. I will wait though until the Variac is also ready to go then I will start the list of who wants what and how many. I think given the high freight costs I prefer to consolidate all into the one order. The Manual startup, if anyone wants to use it that way is much simplified now. The manual operation sequence is as follows. 1) Ensure the start/run switch is in the off position. 2) Press and hold the precharge button and note the input Vlow LED lights up. 3) When the Vlow LED goes off close the main contactor (and release the precharge button) 4) At your leisure, switch the inverter to Run 5) When the run LED has slowed to a 1Hz flash rate, you can close the AC breaker to the load. step 5 only required if the automatic relay closure output is not wired in. The two schematics for the auto and manual start up are below and have more detail (and the manual schematic is a little different to the previous one) Manual Startup WG39 Rev6 Manual Start.pdf Auto Startup WG39 Rev6 Auto Start.pdf Poida is almost finished writing the inverter code and KeepIS is testing/tweaking & supporting Poida who will no doubt be very glad when this is all over. As these projects progress there have been some subtle changes to the original software and functionality of hardware. The end result is exactly the same code for both and a simple operator interface that is wife friendly (sometimes a rarity...) - even the manual one (inverter) is easy to operate. There are minimal changes to the BOM but both will be updated very soon. Yesterday I received the dedicated Variac boards and I am currently building one up to put through its paces. Nice work, looking forward to see the results. Has the nano enough IO's for a complete automatic power up? For an extra pre-charge relay and output (AC) contactor. This could let my wife put it on and off without a lot of education. |

Yes primarily designed as a fully automatic inverter, single switch on/off, automated pre-charge [Kilovac] and fool proof. Nothing you do will cause inrush current into the Caps in full Auto mode.
