Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

That update seems to work.
I could not get any of my MicroMites to fail.
Maybe other can try it and confirm.
I redid the tests i described in my posts.

Bug squashed! :)

I am going out the door now (10:55am UK). Won't be back till this evening.

I will do these tests later and let you know how it goes - sounds like with Geoff's fix, and with a cap on the +v line, then probably is fixed.

Speak this evening . . . .

I did some more testing and found that the capacitor on pin 19 and 20 when not securely fixed (like when used in a breadboard) adds to the problem. I soldered a few directly on the chips and the 'reset' problem on the 4.5 firmware was a lot less, but still occurred.

With the 4.5c update i get no failures at all in the tests i did. And i really tried by having bad contacts on purpose and connecting power and wires in the wrong order.

Thanks TZ. I think that we can say that it is fixed.

I did not want to do this but I think that I will have to put out a new release (4.5C) as this is a serious bug. We don't want users bricking their pre programmed Micromites just because they used a cheap USB-serial adapter.

I had assumed that the check consisted of the MicroMite seeing the startup message echoed back identically on the Rx input, rather than just seeing a logic level or just series of pulses.

Does 4.5C fix the random number bug too?

cheers,
rob :-)

Geoff,

Please; do you have a 44-pin version you can make available so that I can test quickly?

I have also tested 28-pin v4.5C and no additional problems to report.

Just out of interest this has fixed the issue I sent to you by email on 1st/2nd March re MicroMite - Console 'lockout'‏.

Phil

Thanks for the test report Phil. There should not be any difference with the 44-pin version but it is attached if you want to try it. 2014-05-01_132514_Micromite_V4.5C_Beta_1_44-pin.zip

Yes, it could easily fix your "console lockout" issue. I was never able to reproduce your issue but now, with hindsight, I realise that I must have USB-serial adapters that are well behaved.

Give me a day or two to do the full test sequence on V4.5C and then I will post it.

Rob: Yes, it fixes all the bugs listed in http://geoffg.net/Downloads/Micromite/Current_Bug_List.txt
