I've spent the last couple of days doing more figuring and tuning than building. So I made a couple more sit-on-the-edge-of-your-set nail biters on the deal:

ChrisOlson,
The "figureing and tuning" part is just as important and interesting to me as the pictures of what you have built.
Just want to say that you'r builds Rock...thanks for shareing.

Thanks - I don't know if these things Rock. But I did get this turbine running in the meantime and had a few problems. Just about burned up the voltage clipper for it two nights ago. I found out the turbine can put out more power than the current limit in the Classic controller can handle, and my clipper wasn't powerful enough so it burnt the heating coil springs black.
With the voltage clipper not being powerful enough it let the rotor speed get too high. Once the blades got up to 550-600 rpm the turbine refused to furl. It was furling fine @ 450 rpm. But once the wind picked up it reached the limit of the Classic's output and went into over-speed. It was generating right around 5 kW for 6-8 hours with roughly 2.5 kW going to the batteries and 2.5 kW being dissipated by the clipper @ 145-147 volts.
I built a more powerful clipper for it last night that will dissipate more power below 100 volts and hopefully keep the turbine from over-speeding so the furling works.
So I have had a few growing pains with this one, and a steep learning curve. And all my calculations and figgerin' ended up not being even close once I got the machine on the tower

Hello Chris,
Wow! 5kw for 5 or so hours...She's a real brute of a machine to have survived the wind storm and still be working ok. I have a good feeling about this one, I'd say it passed the test in flying colors, just need a few minor tweeks to the furling ect. like you said.
Don't let you'r face and fingers get to cold in these temps. if you'r out side, in these winds it won't take long.

Hello Cris,
Well ok, 35 amps at 155 volt/ 2 phase/ ac...I was thinking it was dc current at 24 volt...still alot of power to be generating, but well controllable if it is ac.
