Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Sorry David, it seems to be punch Don in the face week for some unknown reason. Can you please quote me the text where I "start ripping into someone based on a misconception"? You are not confused the the arrival of sparkey in the middle of this thread and the noise that was created are you? Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Ok Don but you did seem to be a little over the top with the fact that someone had the hide to register maximite.com.au. VK4MU MicroController Units |

you can't quote the text, after make accusations, then back off. Sorry I don't understand. I'm not allowed to ask questions anymore? Can someone else within the group please tell me what I did wrong? Am I missing the obvious? Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Do not take it too serious mate and vikingboy went off half-cocked as well Jeez, Come on let's be mates , I am 57 today. We have spoken in the past in person. You and I were the pioneers in Australia in microcomputing (I also had a LOW serial Number Model 1 delivered June 1978) and built a EDUC-ATE kit before that. VK4MU MicroController Units |

Hi David As with all new members, I spent some time googling your details before signing you up as a member. There were a number of alarm bells rung, it seams you have dozens and dozens of domains and web sites in a whole range of area's, including domain name sales, SEO, blogs, etc. One that concerned me the most was barefoottech, "Various Ways To Make Money With Domain Names". I was going to put you down as a spammer or domain horder, but I found a link to Studio51, so I figured you were behind the MaxiMite.com.au domain, and would give you a chance to participate in the conversation. I also found electronics and ham radio in you list of interests, another plus. I look forward to your Maximite contributions. Yes BareFootTech (Sole trader) owns 300 Domains. Djuqa Pty Ltd (My Pty.Ltd) owns another 50. I have a minisite web development company which develops websites commercially (Just as does theBackshed). However as a person I do have hobby and professional interests that are not websites/domains. Electronics/Software/Amateur Radio for instance. I first built a microcomputer in 1976 Purchased and IMPORTED privately TRS-80 Model 1 1978 Did experiments with 27mhz CB's using RTTY generated by trs-80 (1979) Professional z80 developer since 1980 First licenced as Limited call Amateur 1982 Developed z80 Based software/hardware for Computerised scoreboards 1982 C'wealth Games. Helped developed the BIT90 Z80 Home computer Worked for TAITO Aust. on Multi Z80 based Game board reworking Was part of technical support for Amstrad CPC /PCW Computers (SMD Board reworking/monitor/software support) and so on So don't think this is a one page, get a google ad click, sort of site. Looking at the quality of some my sites (e.g. XmasGift.in) may tell you that they are not just a 5 minute crapsite. I REALLY HATED the Automatic assumptions displayed here by most of the posters The reason I registered the names maximite.com.au/maximite.net.au in company name is all my names are migrating to company ownership. I take issue with your description "domain Hoarder" , I am a domainer (A legally recognised business category). I don't hoard / or just sit on names. Most of my names are developed. That article you mentioned has been syndicated and used hundreds of times by other website developers. VK4MU MicroController Units |

Hi David Welcome and thanks for helping to clear up the situation. This is mostly an Aussie response of there's something in my backyard (that can be suburb, town, country) and I haven't been personally told so therefore it must be something sinister. Once the word spreads this attracts the mates to the rally! We're a really friendly bunch and just hate getting the "raw prawn" but once we have it off our chests and sorted it out we'll have a beer and everything's apples. I don't think I went off half cocked at all, a site with no original content or contribution whatsover grabs ,due to a very unfortunate change in Auda rules, a domain name in which others have a strong and direct commercial interest. Then the further information on you and your companys' commercial activities only strengthens my original suspicions. As I originally stated I would like to be proven wrong, I am still awaiting any evidence to the contrary, perhaps you really are a very keen maximite enthusiast and will contribute reams of original and welcome content, I will wait and see. rgds, Andrew ps Strange if you are so interested in the maximite that you had to follow the links to your site in order to know of this sites existence though ?? |

As Shakespeare might say - "The gentleman doth protest too much, methinks". Let it slide, djuqa, I'm happy to see how your domain evolves and judge for myself, but you do seem to be holding on a bit tight. - Rob. For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |

Hi All, Not a domain horder??!! I sent a renewal for my primary to one of the 'name' domain folks. They ignored my renewal and 'lost' my domain then they offered to 'sell' it back to me! A year or so later they sent me a corporate check to try to refund my original payment. Total sleez bags. Domain hording is a pretty low way to try to make a living! How about doing some real stuff to support Maximite. Just my 2 cents, Wiz |

BTW David, you have an early board of Geoff's, posted on your web page as the MiniMaxiMite: However the mini (and picture) is shown at: http://geoffg.net/mini-maximite.html AS you will see, it is somewhat smaller than that early prototype. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

I see that the "NEW" Maximite web site has been updated. The font has been changed! Sadly, no further information has been added, so don't bother going to the site to find any new ideas etc. Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

jeez the name and site is less than a WEEK old and already you expecting MEGA Content. Some further information. VK6MRG & aargee I will add more content , other than the font. I do have a company to run. This site is a Hobby interest site. VikingBoy Lots of content and input (original from me) will come. Both Software and addons And I knew of this site existence previously. I traced back from my site the link in this thread. donmck Thanks mate and Wizard I am sorry to hear of your experience with your name. That is just plain miserable what that company did too you. I had a similiar experience 5 years ago. DO not assume just because someone has the money, inspiration and ability to purchase a domain and (over a period of time) develop the site that I am a DOMAIN HOARDER. I don't hoard names, I use them. With over 400 names they need to be used. And BTW I do not buy them for resale to others. I have resold 1 .com.au name in 7 years. Finally some of what I plan to cover is 1/ Other Languages a/ MM PASCAL (Turbo Pascal Clone) b/ LOGO or similiar graphic oriented language. 2/ Amateur Radio applications (BIGTIME) 3/ Whatever my poor feeble brain finds time for. Hi Dj, I for one say welcome to `The back shed' now that we know you have good intentions with the site. I cant wait to see what transpires.. I understand the initial reactions but if you do start developing the site for the benefit of the community, I for one am glad it wasnt grabbed by some profiteer. I am still mystified as to why the rules changed to allow anyone to take any site name in Aus though. Regards, mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Thanks for the welcome vasi and Bigmik
I am still mystified as to why the rules changed to allow anyone to take any site name in Aus though.
The rules changed in 2008 because of submissions and realisation that it stifled the wide spread usage of .au domains. There is a restricted list of names that can't be registered (mainly misspellings and reserved terms like "bank, credit union and so on". Maybe I need to start a section on this forum on domains and their usage. While the wider public is left in the dark about the names they can get, the big companies will grab them. The average joe in the street Registers JoeSmith.com.au thinking that is all he can buy because he is Joe Smith Pty. Ltd. (or soletrader) when he could have had PerfectPlumber.com.au VK4MU MicroController Units |
