Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

James_From_Canb said   I had a similar problem the very first time I used the SD card on my Altronics Maximite. It didn't seem to recognise the card.

I think my solution was to save a file to the card. Since then I've never had a problem.

I know that's not the same as Bryan's problem, but people with SD card problems are likely to read this thread.

Also, it might be worthwhile checking the soldering on the SD card cage contacts. Some strange SD card behaviour in other threads was found to be caused by faulty soldering.

Thanks James,
I saved several .bas files on the card. I wrote them onto the SD card from my PC.

After 2 or 3 tries to make them ri=un on the MM, I gave up & came back to the PC. I checked them again on the PC & found them OK.

I also checked the the SD is formated in the FAT format.

It is. So, I'll now check the connections. There may be a soldering issue.

If you are still having difficulty you may need to try a different SDcard, I tried 2 before I found one that worked well, the first didnt work at all, the second was kind of flaky was difficult to get it to be seen, you needed to save a file to it from the maximite before it would start working and show its contents etc, but the third is now fine, I think the MM SM1 is a little 'sensitive' in regards to the SDcard, I think it may also be something to do with the power circuits.

Anyway just something else to consider, hope you find a solution and can start having some fun :)

Good point Andrew.

My wording was poor. My Kingston 2GB SD card works well, but I had to save a file to it from the MM (not from the PC) before it worked reliably. I've had no problems with it since then.

Len, try this

On the MM, enter
10 Print "Hello"
SAVE "HELLO.BAS"
FILES

Hopefully you can now see HELLO.BAS.

Don compiles a list of compatible SD cards somewhere on this forum.

Thanks James, I'll try that.

And thanks to Don for the link to the tested SD Cards.

Problem solved.

One connection on the SD card holder was intermittent.

It looked OK with small magnification, but when I used the max mag & a strong light, it was not properly soldered.

Thanks fore your inputs.
