Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Well there's your next Maximite 2! Geoff? Are you reading this? A maximite with a built in colour/mono LCD screen. I'd love to have a pocket TRS-80 with all my DSK images on the SD. Plug in a mini USB keyboard and you have it! Nick |

A built in LCD would be nice, but it depends on how much it bumps up the cost. There are applications for the Maximite where a screen isn't needed, except for set up or debugging. I guess there would be audrino shields that would do the same thing, so you only need to pay for the screen if you need it. Thanks for update Ken The Q key does indeed work now If you press the Break key the it seems to act as if the enter key is stuck down ? Very minor issue Video looks really great (Reminds me of what it used to be like) Regards John |

Hello Don and all the TRS-80 people, what would be the chances of a boxed TRS-80 emulator (look-a-like) for the older people around to play with? A Maximite in a custom keyboard/case to look like the TRS-80. Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

I was thinking about making a small box for it in the correct shape of the trs80 not keyboard size tho . ken |

Video now working well. Q key fixed. There is a problem with the keys when playing games that require more than one key pressed. Many games require a diaganol movement by press 2 keys at once. Currently, one of the keys seems to take precedence. For example, in Eliminator, pressing Right Arrow and Up Arrow... the Up Arrow has priority, Right Arrow ignored. Red LED for Power on status and Green LED for 'Disk' access would be nice. :) On another non-TRS-80 firmware matter... The video output to a CRT is great. On an LCD, it's not as good due to the LCD requiring a matching native resolution. This can't be easily avoided. But what would be nice is a mod to the maximite to give blacker black's. The background is grey. Is there a mod? Also, has anyone got a simple mod for internal sound? Does the TRS-80 firmware support sound as yet? Nick |

COOL, Awesome! I can't remember if i ever used a TRS-80 as a kid, but I'd get one just to have a play with the old school games! Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

Hi Nick. To obtain a black display on a LCD you would have to remove R4 - in other words set it up for VGA mode only. Or you could add a switch (DPDT) that selects VGA or composite (one pole for JP2 and the other pole for R4). For internal sound there have been suggestions in earlier threads, including adding a piezo device directly connected to the sound output or adding a small buffer amp and piezo or mini speaker. I wonder what the go is with emulating TRS-80 basic, and using the name after 30 odd years. I tried to chase the trail of ownership: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tandy_Corporation but it gets a little flaky at times. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

What i think would be handy is if the i/o pins be mapped to the z80 address bus/databus such that the Out and In commands can interact with external devices. As the maximite has only 20 pins available I think we could map the lower 8 bits of the address bus and the full 8 bit data bus to pins, With pins for i/o and r/w enable. I think this would then enable sound to be added and use a real cassette player (I have over 100 trs-80 tapes). If the source becomes available I would like to port it over to one of the UBW32 bit whacker boards (thanks Don for including your business card with my recent purchase), and then be able to map the hwole busover to take care of those few instances where the undocumented features were used. Anyway thats my few cents worth Terry |
