Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Nice idea, but with that Lantronix module running at $45 a pop it won't be cheap enough for hobbyists. I've used them, they're a good fast solution for prototyping, however production boards use something else.

I'm well aware of the what is required to add Ethernet to a product, and if I was trying to sell 10,000 of them I would do it differently.

What is or isn't cheap enough for hobbyists depends entirely on the hobbyist, usually they only want one, and so with low volume locally made products like this one, there is always going to be an above the line cost.

I'm not going to defend my engineering decisions or pricing on this forum, particularly as you don't even know what the final price is, but sufice to say that if I didnt think I could sell it, I wouldnt have made it.

This module will provide quick easy Ethernet connectivity (and a few other bonuses) to a product that otherwise does not have it. Sure it will cost more than a discreet solution, but that solution also comes with a whole raft of other complexities that are just not needed for this product.

So feel free to knock a cheaper one up yourself and offer it up for sale.

BTW $45 might be your buy price, but it aint mine.

The real point here is i'mn not in this to fund an early retirement. I started off making the first board for my own use, and thought others might like one as well. So there is no huge markup and profit to be had in any of my stuff. If I'm lucky I'll make a modest profit, and others get to enjoy the functionality my products offer.
