Oz, thanks for clarifying that. Hey Mad, I don't mind having to spend $$$, just annoying after 20 calls I can't find someone in this bloody rip off state that is within cooo weeee of sellers even in England. The thing that concerns me with the recycled wire is that it won't get the same amount of copper in the same size area as the fine strand welding cable, plenty of wire sitting there, might give it a go. What's the equation to work out how many wires I need to get 70mm2? Hey Mulver, you may as well get cracking, it doesn't cost anything to wind. If you go 4 windings be very careful to keep it compact and tight as you go. Clockman, I can't seem to find much info on your site about the new cooling board, could you possibly elaborate on it? Heres the PDF for the OzCooling board. Its 2 independent circuits with a shared power supply input plug on the PCB, each with 2 temp sensor connections/plugs, and 2 fan connection plugs. Each circuit operates either the PCB cooling or the toroid cooling. I use one fan sucking in/blowing in at the bottom and pushing out the air at the top, which is what natural convection will do, the fans just help things along. I use computer fans, as they can be slowed and speeded up. The two VR's/trimmers/pots per circuit are for sensitivity/ramping and temperature setting/turn on, and then they are gently blowing/sucking dependant on the temp. If the temp keeps rising then the Fans keep speeding up, temp falls the fans slow down. Hopefully you get the picture and can adjust the circuit for your particular situation.. The circuit requires 12vdc sufficient to run 4 fans, so check the wattage of the fans. Its a lovely simple and robust circuit and it operates just sweet. 2018-02-01_062345_OzCoolingMsk+Discrip1a.pdf HHMM PDF does not seem to work here, here is a image of the PDF ........ Everything is possible, just give me time. 3 HughP's 3.7m Wind T's (14 years). 5kW PV on 3 Trackers, (10 yrs). 21kW PV AC coupled SH GTI's. OzInverter created Grid. 1300ah 48v. |

1.6 wire is 2 sq mm 2.0 wire is 3.14 sq mm So 35 or 22 wires respectively will give you 70mm sq, you could cut 50 mm straight lengths of the required number and tape them together to see what diametre to expect. I would expect 11 - 12 mm diametre of the bundle, working on a 78 mm hole size I reckon 14 wires require 14mm each, so there should be a bit slack there to make it easier. Before you start on the primary check the number of turns required, you can do that when check that 4th wire. Get some insulated wire and do 14 turns, turn on the power and check the AC voltage on that wire. Should be close to 26V. When you wind the wire cut half the number needed but double the length required use a piece of rope to get the length of 1 turn X 14 plus an extra 4 metres. Double them over so you have a loop on one end to secure it, anchor the looped end when you have them all laid out comb them out so they all sit parallel, I put small cable ties every 200mm to keep them in a neat bundle, if they crossover it will add bulk. I made a clamp with 2 pieces of wood about 450mm long bolted together about 30mm either side of the centre and drilled 10mm hole in the middle of the join. Then I clamped that on the free end of the wire and pulled it tight and started twisting. Just keep going while pulling it hard until you get a nice twist, then wrap it in insulation tape the entire length or put heat shrink tube on it. Clockman, thanks, by sensitivity/ramping do you mean how hard the fan pushes at a set point? Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |

Sensitivity is the temperature the fan starts up, ramp is how quickly it speeds up if the temperature increases further. There is a lot more detail here same circuit, I just modified it so only one IC is required, they have 4 channels and only one is used in the original circuit. Thanks again Mad, after all the questions I bet you regret talking me into building this little frigga hahaha LOL. One more question, where does the 12v power for the cooling circuit come from? Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |

OK 4th winding tested ok. Did a primary coil test of 14 winds and got bang on 26V 15 winds got 27.81V Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |

Thanks Mad, items I still need to get are insulated battery posts for connections digital guages, I'm interested in what people are using there recently. Shunt and compatible meter. cable for connections to heat sinks and power board, prob get battery cable from jaycar for that. So the Chinese are closed for business for 13 days..... hmmm you could imagine the "lazy Aussie" comments if it was the other way around. Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |
