have finnaly finnished developing the right stator setup for my windturbine, it is a similar setup to what Davep68 has decribed, I wish I had seen his test results before I started building mine, I must have pulled down my turbine 10 times in the last year or so to test diffrent stators etc, anyway,,, now I have installed 2 x .6mm 36 pole stators, the first is direct drive and is electrily cut in half, with each half wired in delta, cutin rpm is approx 140rpm, the second stator is cut in 3/3 ,and each third is wired as star, and it is geared up 1.5 times, to cut in at approx 75 rpm, both stators are fitted with the black rotor caps, with the stronger magnets, there is a slight loss of rpm in light winds due to the extra loading from the stronger magnets, but a large gain in power once the windspeed increases, I have gone away from useing the 42 pole stators as there always seems to be more cogging with them when compared with the 36 poles, even after decogging. The turbine has 8 blades ,with a diameter is 2.4 meters, with a swept area of aprox 2.3m, peak rpm is approx 500 rpm it is useing a 1000watt 45-90v dc input gridtie inverter. So far it has reached 855 watts on the ac output side of the inverter, so thats about 925 on the dc input side, and the turbine was nearly at its furling point, so I hoping to get about 930 peak ac output when turbine starts furling, finnaly I am happy with the output of the turbine

Hiya

Well done on getting such a high peak output. I note you have already made a comment on my set up which is pretty close to your configuration. I have gone for the 22-60V Inverter as it has a better operating range of voltage. It seem you have gone for a higher voltage system, but still got great results!

Just like to ask if during all your experimenting did you every use batteries on a lower voltage set up (48V) with your Grid Tie Inverter?

Cheers

David

Gday Dave, yep I had batterys hooked up to my windturbine ,Im on the grid, and I know they are a must have if you are off the grid and don't want to live by candle light ,this is just my experience with them. I was useing them as a voltage regulator, the turbine never seemed to perform aswell through the batterys,to much wasted energy going into the batterys to keep the inverter going and the voltage up,I had solid state relays to stop the batterys being cycled too deep,to try and make them last, really just a pain in the ass, blew up 2 inverters, and a charge controller, made my own dumpload resistors etc, I was trying to do things on the cheap but it ended up costing heaps in money and wasted time looking after batterys and replacing cooked electronics and cooked batterys, when I found the actual windturbine gridtie inverters online it was a relief, they come with there own dumpload resistor, just hooked it up ,and forgot about it.so much easier,,,they work well.So Im not really a big fan of batterys at the moment, but who knows what the future holds, with the way the power companys in this country ripp everybody off, we may have to go off grid one day in the future, our gridtie system at home is about 4.2 kw solar pv and 1kw windturbine, and a 300 litre solar water heater, ,the testing you are doing with the f n p stators is good, very handy for any body wanting to work out what setup they may need for there f n p wind turbine or hydro, cheers Fred Edited by flc1 2015-10-17

Just an update, turbine has recently put out 957w ac, ,, more than expected, I did'nt see if was furling, not at home at the time.

Great! What sort of a wind grid-tie did you pick? Is it the 1000W SUN-1000G-WDL-H-E? Quite an alphabet soup!

Hi Fred

Wow over a 1000W on AC side which means that the DC power output into the inverter will be over 1100W so your setup keeps getting better...

Here is a table of power output from a 36 pole Stator wired in Delta mode uncut and using a Black rotor cap into a 86 ohm load. The 1/2 cut plus 1/3 cut results in the table are scaled. I have already proven the scaling dose work from other testing just didn't want to repeat the same RPM tests another 2 times.

RPM Watts Volts Amps Volts 1/2 Amps 1/2 Volts 1/3 Amps 1/3
60___12.5__33__0.38__16.5______0.76_____11.00_____1.14
100__32.2__52__0.62__26.0______1.24_____17.33_____1.86
120__46.5__62__0.75__31.0______1.50_____20.67_____2.25
150__69.9__76__0.92__38.0______1.84_____25.33_____2.76
180__94.5__90__1.05__45.0______2.10_____30.00_____3.15
200__121__100__1.21__50.0______2.42_____33.33_____3.63
250__178__123__1.45__61.5______2.90_____41.00_____4.35
300__245__144__1.70__72.0______3.40_____48.00_____5.10
350__311__162__1.92__81.0______3.84_____54.00_____5.76
400__384__183__2.10__91.5______4.20_____61.00_____6.30
450__454__200__2.27__100.0_____4.54_____66.67_____6.81
500__527__215__2.45__107.5_____4.90_____71.67_____7.35
550__585__225__2.60__112.5_____5.20_____75.00_____7.80
588__660__240__2.75__120.0_____5.50_____80.00_____8.25
800__880__275__3.20__137.5_____6.40_____91.67_____9.60

The maximum output 880W was due to me using a 1200W drill with which resulted in that being the maximum shaft power it could produce.

The 86 ohm load is the optimum load for this stator uncut in delta mode. Any deviation from this load to a higher or lower resistance will result in a lower output power. You will now see why it isn't practicle to connect them directly to a battery without using a DC-DC converter or some form of switching system at cutting in at different RPM ranges.

Hope this data is of use to you and others that would like to use it.

Anyway keep up the good work Fred..

Cheers

Gday Dave, thanks for loading your test results, thats awsom work. I wish I had a lath so I could spin up a F n P to the very max, to see what it would do, just keep increasing the rpm untill it destroys itself ..ha! what do you rekon? Edited by flc1 2016-03-28

govertical,

All I can say after watching your video is you are a "bloody Idiot" there is nothing of value to your doings other than not what to do.
Personally if it was me I would remove the link because its a hazard and produced by a idiot with no understanding of respect for electrical hazards.
Besides it adds no content of information other than how to be a Dick Head.

Yes I use strong words, but that is how I see your content of the video requires.

Plane and simple ....if that is the best you can do and post, then the internet don't need any more idiots like you posting bad crap.

Please refrain from posting electrical hazard rubbish in the future as it just might kill someone some day.
Sometimes it just works

Sounds like your a bit jealous or is this just more of your toxic bullsh*t?

Hi, they were talking about increasing the RPM's until the F&P burns out.
The video shows how dangerous the F&P can be at higher RPM's.

And another very questionable VIDEO

Please note, nothing to do with F&P

Why? Why would anyone try this?

People have actually died from tongue testing a single battery.

The comments say it all!

It is a strange, strange world we live in.

Sorry for late reply, would be an interesting experiment to see how tough these F&P stators are. Not a fan of the replies you've received so far, not very constructive at all...

You're the only one to make a comment on the table of data that took me weeks to perfect.

Just goes to show how this site with all it's handy hints, does draw in those with an average IQ around room temperature...

Gday Dave, that IS good data that you have supplyed, and yes, I was simply stateing ( if people bother to read what I wrote correctly) that I would like to see what rpm would be reguired for a f n p stator to fly apart, I said NOTHING about the electrical side of things, because its not about that, not interested in that, we already know what they are capable of putting out electricly, downwind ... just calm down and take a heart pill,,, if people watch that vid that govertical suggests ,,,and they have at least half a brain,,,its very clear to see how leathal the f n p can be. I think it is an interesting vid, shows how powerful the f n p is. and as for people with what DaveP68 calls room temperature IQ......I think they will electrocute themselves regardless of what they do or do not watch on youtube.
