I made a PC program that is a simple terminal for the Maximite.

There is a drop-down for selecting the serial port that the Maximite is on. Once selected the main window area is a terminal connection to the Maximite.

There is a LOAD button that lets you load a .BAS file from your PC to copy to the Maximite. There is also a SAVE button that will grab the BASIC file in the Maximite and save it to a location on your PC.

This is just the start of the program. There is more that I will be adding to the MMIDE program to increase the program's utility.

I just made this last night - really have not tested it extensively. It probably has bugs. Please let me know what you find. The newest version will always be located at this link:

The program is Copyright CircuitGizmos and must not be hosted for download anywhere else, but it can be used by any Maximite owner.

There is a flaw that happens when posting a link to this site. The link shows up as:

http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/www.circuitgizmos.com/files /MMIDE.zip

When I posted it as:

http://www.circuitgizmos.com/files/MMIDE.zip

The copy the shorter link into the address of your browser.

When using the link button, make sure the http:// prefix is there, or the link is just appended to the end of the current page address.

Thank you CircuitGizmos,
I'll download it & try it once I have constructed my Maximite kit. At the moment I'm waiting for a call from Semtronics to tell me when it has arrived.

They are a reseller for Altronics & can also get items from JayCar.

They are a small company in Nunawading Vic, I find they are usually significantly cheaper than Altronics & JayCar.

Their web site is basic as they don't have the manpower to maintain it.

I have a few features I'll be adding, but I am open to suggestions, too.

CG, I tried to run MMIDE.exe

Got this error:

Had to run task manager to break out of it.

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

Did you extract the .exe and the folder that goes with it?

(Like I said - not a lot of testing done since last night.)

Ended up with:

c:\maximite\robs driver\MMIDE\MMIDE.exe
4,578,045 bytes
and:
c:\maximite\robs driver\MMIDE\MMIDE Libs\Appearance Pak.dll
139,264 bytes.

Tried to run the exe file.

Hmm. You have any serial ports?

I have Win 7/64, too.

I just ran the copy that I downloaded.

Does it work for anybody? Do I have something magic on my machine?

This could be very handy, CircuitGizmos. You wanted bug reports, so here's mine.

I downloaded MMIDE and tried it under XP2. The MMIDE terminal window appeared, then a dialog box appeared containing the news that:
"An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must be shut down." The app then froze. The dialog box and the MMIDE window were not responding wither to click on the Close button nor to attempts to drag them using their title bar. All other windows were working.

Clicking on the OK in the dialog box had no effect. Clicking on Exit in the main window did nothing. Even if nothing is clicked the application closes after about 30 seconds.

It would be unfair not to mention that XP2 is running in a VirtualBox window on a MacPro. However, it's unlikely that this is a cause of the problem given that absolutely everything I've been able to throw at it runs perfectly - much better than on my previous Windows box in fact. I guess a quad core processor with 8 Gb of RAM helps. I've been using it to develop C++ software that's currently running around 900,000 lines of code and it's proved to be utterly reliable during all that project.

Best of luck with this project. I'd be happy to try anything else that you may find useful for debugging.

Rob, remember I mentioned that yesterday Sparkey came and got my last Maximite that I had at home, so I had nothing to test it with?

Well as it turns out, I had no serial port on my laptop.

I plugged in an FTDI converter board, and tried again. Came up with COM5:, so I checked the device manager, and sure enough, COM5 has an FTDI device plugged into it.

First test, make sure you have a serial port, else program runs amok.

Can you perhaps report, "No Serial Port Found"

Sorry, I can't test it further until possibly Sunday.

That was the problem I expected. I will beef up the code to handle the case where there is no serial port.

Bruce - in virtualbox do you get a serial port?
