Hi all,

I have been in contact with a magnet manufacture in China and have established a good contact and good prices for small shipments for lots of 25 magnets and above.

They have made an exception for us to pay using Paypal, as this allows for currency conversion and security of payment not to mention a easy payment method.

I have asked Kathy the contact with "Risheng Magnets" to join the forum and to introduce her self to you all, to establish a working relationship for supply of magnets direct for forum members.

As they are manufactures all magnets are made to order, so there is a lead time of approx 20 days from time of order.
Details will need to be provided of magnet, size, type, coating, and direction of magnetism, even temperature range range can be asked.

As Rishengmagnets have been very obliging to myself. I ask you give them a go for your next magnet purchase as i think you will find the same friendly service, and a pricing that will be very hard to beat.

I receive nothing from this, but think it can be a very good supplier relationship for everyone to benefit from.

Some price examples Kathy has give me to post to the forum is......

1. N42, 50 x 25 x 12.5mm, Magnetized through 12.5mm, NiCuNi coating.
Unit price: USD 4.5/pc FOB Ningbo.

2. N42, D50 x 12.5mm, Axial magnetized, NiCuNi coating.
Unit price: USD 6.8/pc FOB Ningbo.

3. N42, D50 x 15mm, Axial magnetized, NiCuNi coating.
Unit price: USD 7.9/pc FOB Ningbo.

Shipping to Australia is around USD $75.00 - $85.00 for 25 magnets.

All prices quoted are in US dollars, and at present the Paypal conversion rate is approx. AU$ 1.00 to USD $0.90.
So its a good time to buy magnets ;-)

Hi all,
For those of you in Europe (or elsewhere) I have found an excellent Dutch company to deal with for custom magnets (details below). They have branches in France, Germany, Spain, UK.
The problem with Chinese Companies dealing direct is quality control, and believe me quality is EVERYTHING when it comes to magnets. Of course the chinese can make everything cheaper than anyone else so this leads to a quality/cost dilemma.
Well this Dutch company takes care of that for us; they write the specs based on your order (and their designers are very accommodating with the wedge shapes favoured for our axial flux machines), the magnets are made in THEIR factory in China and so you get the low cost but with Dutch quality control.
I regularly order special shapes for my 18' machines, 1"x 3"x2" N42 triple coated epoxy encapsulated wedge shaped neos, and they can supply them worldwide for €9.90 each! This is half of what other companies charge that are commonly quoted as being the cheapest, Magnets4less etc. The only downside is they prefer to ship by sea rather than air so it takes a couple of months to get them but thats ok for me as i order in bulk and always have a couple of hundred in stock. They rock in Holland and are lovely people to deal with-

u could go with a small 4 magnet 3 coil design for a small 200w alternator.
using the same mags as people use for bigger ones, the 2"x1"x1/2" or the round 2"x1/2" depending on your prefence.

but if ur making one small like that, u could prob get away with pulling the neos out of bummed hard drives from the tip.

magnets i have were in electric motor bicycle,40 x 25 x 4mm,ect.

diam 1.08, 130 turns per coils, for 24-v,200w turbine.

this is my first turbine,i learn from a book named"A wind Turbine Recipe"

am not going build a tower for this turbine, there is no wind in local.

hi Kevin

you mentioned you got the magnets out of an electric bicycle...or maybe you bought them..?

if you got them from a motor it will probably make a good generator the way it is if you play around with it..i wonder what happens to all those bikes when their life is over ...do they wind up in scrap yards ?

i know finding some would depend on your location but i read china makes a LOT of them

in Hughs recipe book he bases his machines on n40 46mm by 30mm by 10mm magnets which seem different to what you have ...so the resulting power will be a lot lower when you alter things to suit (coil shape...turn count...wire thickness..)

if the magnets you have came out off a bike motor theyl probably be curved as well
not so good for mounting on a metal plate ....but it should be possible to adapt the book plans to get a workable mill ...ultimately ..in the long run.. it would be best to stick to his layout though...

i,m a bit curious about that bike motor .. Edited by niall1 2010-09-23

Who???

If you mean Risheng Magnets, are you trying by phone or by email, with email i got an reply back within 24 hours.
I have not tried by phone.

Pete.

PS:- if you are dialing the 86 at the start of the number it might not work for you as this is the country code number and as you are in China you should not need to dial the 86, just the rest of the number.Edited by Downwind 2010-09-23

Copied from Downwind

2. N42, D50 x 12.5mm, Axial magnetized, NiCuNi coating.
Unit price: USD 6.8/pc FOB Ningbo.
Shipping to Australia is around USD $75.00 - $85.00 for 25 magnets.

I just want to add some perspective to this.
The price appears cheap. But what does it cost to get it to Australia?
The freight suggested does not say if sea freight or air freight. I am guessing it is sea freight as air freight is quite expensive.
But ...
If Sea freight you would need to add about AUD$500 for customs & AQIS, port fees etc.
If Air freight you would need to add at least AUD$50 for customs & possibly
Cost for magnetic field test of air transportation cargo: USD$32
Demagnetization package cost: USD$85

Lets have a go at calculating the end cost per magnnet.
Air Freight
USD$6.80ea x 25 = USD$170 + Freight USD$85 = USD$255 / currency conversion 0.90 = AUD$283.33 + (Assume AIR)Customs AUD$50 = AUD$333.33 / 25 = AUD$13.33 each.
If you need to add the USD$32 and USD$85 then they would be AUD$18.01 each.
Sea Freight
USD$6.80ea x 25 = USD$170 + Freight USD$85 = USD$255 / currency conversion 0.90 = AUD$283.33 + (Assume SEA)Customs etc AUD$500 = AUD$783.33 / 25 = AUD$31.33 each.

All I am saying is make sure you add up all expenses first. Don't take my word for this either. Check out the expenses for you self.

Have a look at the specs on their website too.
http://www.rishengmagnets.com/Sintered-NdFeB-magnets.htm
N42 is the one priced above. It has a temperature rating of 80C. Some of the experienced AXFX builders have told me that 80C may be a little too low. I am told that heat over time deteriorates the magnetic strength, so a magnet that has a higher temperature rating should be better.

I have seen a number of people get caught with the Thundersky Lithium batteries too. There used to be a place in USA that offered Thundersky at USD$1.10/ah. But I heard one fellow end up paying around $2.50/ah or something like that by the time he got them to Australia, when he bought from them. My EV Hilux battery pack is 9000ah, so you can imagine the extra thousands he end up paying.

All the best in your hunting

Just to clear up some of the concerns raised by Trev.

Risheng Magnets, ship by TNT door to door service.

If you are ordering under AU$1000.00 dollars of product, and not multiples within 1 month there should be no duties or customs fees involved.

Their packaging includes a metal magnetic shield for shipment so no Demagnetization package cost should apply.

I understand them to be a professional company that are use to shipping world wide.

As for the grade and temperature ratings of the magnets. They will manufacture to your request and price accordingly.

So if you order N42 at 80C rating they will supply N42, 80C magnets.
If you order N50 at 120C rating then they will supply N50, 120C magnets.

I know many suppliers don't always highlight the ratings of their magnets and it can be a gamble of what you end up with.
This is one benefit with dealing with a manufacture direct as you can request magnets to your specifications.

Just because Risheng magnets are offering a great price and service to forum members, it don't mean they are suppling a poor product.

Like wise just because someone paid more or is charging more for their magnets, don't mean they have got a better magnet either.

As Trev said by all means check out the expenses for yourself, and you might find the supply of small (25+/- units) orders are very cost effective and do not attract penalty's and duties that larger orders do.

Pete.

Hi Pete

I spoke to customs and they said that below $1000 combined value they don't bother with duty, so as you say small shipments are cost effective, customs mentioned that there isn't duty as such on the magnets but GST and processing fee.

I have received other magnets and with the metal shield there isn't a problem with magnetic leakage.

All the best

Bob
