Just a question for the knowledgeable people here. I am wanting to build some projects but i have not got all the right tools. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the following; lcr/capacitor etc tester This appears to be an OK product, there are numerous duplicates, even on good ol aliexpress. I mainly want it for the LCR feature, and its much much cheaper than brand name units. Thanks in advance. Ralph |

Doesnt say ANYTHING about L, or inductance. Doesnt mention frequency of tests, even for capacitors. Specs as shown are : Resistance measurement: Max. 50MΩ Resistance resolution: 0.01Ω Capacitance measurement: 25pF~100mF Capacitance resolution: 1pF DC voltage measurement: Up to 50V It does NOT do Inductance, so for me its expensive, NOT as described, and I suggest its a cheap meter with LCD ( Liquid Crystal Display ) NOT an LCR or L = Inductance C= Capacitance R=Resistance meter. There are hundreds available for 1/4 that money with free freight, that DO do as described. best wishes Joe |

Thanks Joe, I'll have another look. Maybe I posted the wrong link. There are ones that look like the above that run on an arduino mega 328 that support an impressive range of testing options to that sort of price. Will post up later perhaps a proper example, my bad. Ralph |

I bought one of these some time ago and have been quite happy with it. many other options but this is convenient and was quite cheap. I rarely need to measure a passive component accurately, i find my biggest use is matching resistors and capacitors when I need pairs and verifying semiconductors when the markings are hard to read. If you have special precision needs then you need to step up to a name brand device, otherwise just go with one of the ones from a major source which has sold the same one for quite a while. Cheers, Alastair |

Thanks for the help fellas. I've decided to go with the following. Not as cheap as your suggestion Joe, but its supposed to also have a frequency generator (you tube videos seem to confirm this). Which could be handy all in one package, and its a decent size screen for component images to be displayed too. M328 LCD 12864 Multi type tester There are so very many kinds that are very similar or identical but different sellers, etc. Ralph |

Just an update, I got the unit linked above. Have used the seller before, quick to arrive considering China delivery. I known there are cheaper ones, and thought I was getting the colour screen.. Anyway at least I have one now, and the arduino chip can be swapped out for other firmwares too. Came in handy already building the 'downwind' LM723 power Supply circuit. Found my 2n2955 were fine but display reminded me they are PNP. Whoops! Still getting used to part numbering, explains why my power supply was not working!! And now time to buy some high power npn's maybe tip35's. Ralph |
