Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Have read many of the build threads.

Has anyone considered micro inverters?
Are the feasible?

Pros, Cons, build difficulties & limitations would be interesting to hear.

Phil.

Depends on what you need it to do. As I understand it, it is not just the load current you want to suck from it, but the start-up surge current that you have to take into account for starting things like motors or compressors etc - they all suck quite large start-up currents. Not for long, but long enough to shutdown or otherwise disable a light-weight inverter.

Considering the trouble you have to go to to build a micro inverter, a little more cash can allow you to build a much gruntier unit.

It is better to have the capacity and not need it, then need it and not have it.

Having said that, again - what were you thinking of trying to run with a micro one?
Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!

Just curious,

A friend has just put in a 20kVA micro inverter system. 64 panels each with their own inverters. 10 Lithium battery packs, each 1.2kVA from memory.

Would be interesting if I could run my office off something similar. It consumes a base load of about 1kVA.

It's interesting to see the monitoring on the 64 panel, all outputs varying when a bit of shading hits.
