Hi Jack

Probably, depends on how long you intend to weld for I guess. I've used my 140amp mig with no problems, but I'm only welding for a minute or so spread over 5 minutes.

I have no idea what current you are using for you welding. It all depends on cooling, getting the heat out of the heat sinks is easy, just add fans, but getting heat out of the transformer core is more difficult. Cooling the transformer takes time, so if you want to run a bead for 10 minutes, better spread it over an hour or so. Cooling fans on the inverter transformer help, but its a big lump of metal and needs time to cool.

This would be much less of a problem for the bigger inverter build, double cores and the 15kW boards.

ok thanks for the advice.think ill keep the pj8000 i got for $240 complete that came with twin 5kw trannies for house chores/light shed chores as it works well when i did the 5.6v zenner diode mod and make a 15kw version of Tinkers design with a double stack 2.5 inspire trannies, that should give me all the power ill ever need and allow me to cut the grid cord off full time.ive got 12x72 cell 3360w @24v of panels and another 10x 60cell 250w panels to feed into a 2.5kw inspire to back feed for those bad overcast days
