I'm wondering if anybody has looked into using the F&P Hall Effect board which comes free with every motor. It seems such a shame to waste them - but they are sitting there unused - purely and simply because I can't find any info on using them or a schematic. Ultimately I'd like to run a small board off one - probably running a PIC and an LCD screen - showing current rpm's and possibly even a datalogger that was able to keep a record of rpm's (and therefore windspeed ) over time. Rather than waste a lot of time reinventing the wheel - has anybody done anything like this - or given up because it's too hard to do?

The only obstruction is you would have to bring down another 3 wires,in my case ,some 100 metres. I did set them up on my test bench,but could not get anything out of them -possibly my fault,though. If anyone knows how to connect them to a car tachometer ,please post a Cct. Bruce Bushboy |

Hmm, i might give it a try. I Reckon i could get them to work if i had a none bent F&P magnetic hub. The thing about those hall effect sensors is, you need to send voltage in to get voltage out. They are like a transistor that activated by magnetism. It would probably be about 5v. Look up the hall effect sensors on alldatasheet and see what the pinouts are, and what sort of input voltage you need to use. |

My idea was to use a lowrange bluetooth chip - to send data down to a Pocket PC.

I did have a play with them a few weeks ago. This is what I discovered.... They need 5 volts to run. The output is on or off, not a variable voltage depending on magnetic strength, so they are no good for current measurement. They are latching. If you pass a N pole past them, they switch on and stay on untill you pass a S pole past them. On a F&P with its 56 magnets, you would get 28 pulses. Anyone been successful in digging up a datasheet for any of the Hall Effect Sensor IC's used in the F&P stator? So far have tried to locate a datasheet for two sensors used without any joy. From what I can see, the circuit shown in the graphic would be close to correct, bit unsure of the Capacitors values but it's the best I can do with what's available. Also recently picked up a "Gentle Annie", no doubt the precursor to the machines curently available. Have taken some photos and can post them if anyone is interested. Cheers |
