Hi Guys

Thought I might ask if there are any valve radio restorers out there with a circuit diagram for a Philips model 100. I'm restoring one I've had since a teenager, and would like to get it working again. The mains transformer is good, valves all heat up and no sign of gassing. Before I start fault finding, I was hoping for a circuit diagram.

I've heard its the same chassis as the Mullard 600, which I have a circuit for, but I'm finding a few differences, though the valve line up is the same.

The Philips 100 was a 4 valve radio, 1947 era.

I've got several valve radio's, should take some photos one day to share.

Have a gander through this site, couldn`t find your particular model, but a more detailed look might come good.

I thought I had a schematic but I have struck out, I found a circuit for a 112 and some notes from a mullard meteor 600 (same chassis but different layout) they are all 1947-49 and use the same valves but that is as close as I get.

if I do have one it is well hidden.
I'm confused, no wait... maybe I'm not...

Thanks guys.

I did find a vintage radio web site that listed a CD containing the circuit, but when I asked them for a price, and if indeed the CD had that circuit, they wanted me to become a paying member of their web site before providing any more info

I should be OK without the circuit, as the radio is intact, but circuits can help with fault finding and alignment.

Glenn, if it was me I would trace out the circuit. Surely, that radio is pre PCB vintage so following a few wires and solder tag strips should be easy enough.
You will need the pinout of the valves but I assume that info can be found on the net.

Have fun and don't touch those anode leads

Hi Glenn

I used to service these as a very young fella and you will find that unless it has been ratted you just replace the electros and use a 100 uf cap hand held as a signal injector and go from grid to grid from the audio end back to trace the signal path, the oscillator mixer valve may need the caps replacing to get the IF frequency back to 455K and keep one hand behind your back, from memory dc was around 250 volts so it bites, if you need pin out on valves I still have the old valve books so let me know the type. good idea to replace all the old paper caps with new poly ones as if it hasn't been going for a while they can absorb moisture and short out when the HV hits them.

All the best

Hi Grassy

Mate that would be great if you could, really appreciated. Do you have a scanned copy or other?

Tony has come to the rescue and sent a copy of the circuit, plus alignment and voltage readings. I've zipped them up ( 3 TIFF files ), can be downloaded here if anyone else is chasing them.

Thanks Tony

The Silicon Chip magazine is also a good source of info re old valve radios.

See the Vintage Radio section. They publish a different radio in each issue.
