How can I get the f&p motor to run as a motor? I've tried using a Variable Frequency Drive to control the motor, it was a 120vac single phase to 240vac 3 phase controller, that didn't work, ran very slowly couldn't get it to run fast I'd like to use the motor as a prime mover. how can I make this work? |

You could try using the electronic board that was in the washing machine your F&P came from. You might have to modify the washing program or figure out how the board drives the motor. That way your motor gets the drive it was designed for. Reverse engineering that looks like a lot of work for questionable gain to me. Klaus |

I have several of these motors, I made a wind turbine out of one and due to there compact size and power it be nice to use as a motor to power other things. I'd hate to see them go to waste, I like to reuse, recycle and repurpose. I don't have the electrical training to reverse engineer the control board that came with the washer. maybe I can find someone close to me that can, but thanks for your input! oh yea I tried using the board that came with the unit, but the timing circuit won't let it run continuously. |

Using the F&P as a motor is difficult and in my opinion not worth the effort. You need some fancy electronics and the end result isn't that great. There was an article in Silicon Chip magazine February 2012 about a motor controller that would drive the F&P, it was a commercial unit and worth about $100 from memory. You could experiment with a brushless motor controller, like those used for remote control aircraft these days.
