THIS......is a death trap. Kinda amazed that this kind of thing is allowed on YouTube. If someone who knows nothing about electricity, was to follow this.....they could end up dead.   Deadly link.... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

WHY!!!!????? .....do this. You can buy a SAFE item as in this video(no spoilers!), for about $20 or so. I mean, I have nothing against any YT video where they basically are just spouting whatever(and it could be anything, political or otherwise), but THIS kind of thing.....could KILL someone. I am SERIOUSLY thinking about "Reporting" this video to YT on safety grounds. What do the other members think? Perhaps I am over-reacting. Smoke makes things work. These types of "resistive" water heaters are common in third world countries, you can even buy them from Alibaba. Fortunately most countries like ours have standards that would ban this sort of thing, but unfortunately they can still be purchased from international sellers. A power station I worked in many years ago had a test tank. The idea was to load up a turbine to its full output of 15 megawatts without being connected to the distribution system. The test tank was a big tank of water with three electrodes (3 phase) which were lowered into the tank. Instant hot water. By the time I appeared, the distribution system was big enough to handle the load of one turbine doing silly things so I never got to see the test tank in operation but I did play with a similar method of variable speed control for some large pumps. In this case the water was saline. Messy but fun. That pump house is now a restaurant. I would NOT recommend doing it at home. Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |
