Hi,
I figure this might be an OK place to ask since people here DO use large transformers.

In my hydro application, I'm thinking about running an UNMODIFIED F&P machine to allow for HVAC transmission lines (see post in "Other stuff").

For this to work, I'll need either 3x1 phase transformers or a 3phase transformer. However, I'm not really familiar with what kinds of place I should be looking for such - they seem pretty expensive.

If I'm looking for 3x1 phase transformers, what kinds of appliances might have ~1kVA rated transformers in them? EDIT: If I wire in star config, then only 300VA or so.

Cheers,
R

Wait until you have the system actually running and have made a few tests to determine the exact voltages you need the transformer to work at.

Once we know the voltage ratio, its almost 100% certain you can buy off the shelf transformers for this that will work perfectly well.

If you want to save money, its possible to wind your own using recycled parts. Plenty of help here from the Forum to do that too.
Cheers,  Tony.
