Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Ok, Don't know what happened.. anyways...

So after 18 months of flawlessly running my house,  My homemade transformer shorted on one of the 240v windings, was dubious of the wire i used originally,  so got more out of it than I expected. So back to drawing board. Had a 10kw transformer Wound by DYNE in Melbourne 4 years ago for a PJ that my brother in law has since replaced with a " smarter " selectronic  inverter. The voltages are a bit high for the eg8010 ( 32 vs 28 ) so i reduced the voltage to 225v out, to compensate hopefully ( we will wait and see). Spent a good three days putting it together and ive got to say pretty happy so far... its only early days but.. wife cooked dinner pulling 4kw for about half an hour or so and the fan didn't even ramp up at all ( set to start ramping at 40°c, sat at max 39 for the whole time ).

Here's some pics if anyone interested...

Well done, looks good.

That transformer?   is it a pair of U cores in a Shell type construction?
I would like to do one that way one day, perhaps using Duo core.

Revlac,
You can order the U cores and all the hardware as a kit from AEM in South Australia.
They can supply four U cores any size you want (all are made to order), the mounting straps to hold it all together, and a fiberglass bobbin.
They are the only company in Australia making these.

Actually its a " Duel C core " if memory serves me correctly,  if that is anything different..

I had this one wound by Vlad from DYNE in Melbourne,  fantastic to work with, highly recommend. It is a awesome transformer,  will comfortably do its rated 10kw without a hitch..

Yup,
U core and C core are just a different name for the same thing.

Well there you go...

Just another thing, when the old transformer shorted on the output the hy4008 would have seen it and survived it , input and output breakers fired, yet not one dead mosfet... very impressive to say the least.
