Should not make any difference to torque. There are two basic issues running a wiper motor in reverse. There is usually a worm gear on the motor that drives a larger spur gear. When run in reverse the worm gear tries to screw itself in the opposite direction, and that produces an end thrust that the motor bearings were never designed to take. It will work for a while, but if its heavily loaded the bearings may fail after a short time. The other problem has to do with the self park contacts. The motor and wiper blades will usually stop in a rather strange position if the motor is run backwards. Cheers, Tony. |

Auto windscreen motors are designed to run in one direction as quoted by Warpspeed. The problem is that the axial thrust is taken by nylon thrust cones, at each end of the armature shaft (preslite wiper motors). To over come this problem, the nylon thrust can be replaced with a hardened steal ball, from memory 5mm dia. Many years ago we used worm drive wiper motor for magnetic profile gas cutters, which had to be able to run both ways with equal torque. Cheers john johnmc |

I used a wiper motor for a project and found it din't have enough power. Ended up using something like this Bloody hell that thing has some serious grunt. Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |

There are plenty of much better geared motors around than wiper motors. How about a cordless drill motor and gearbox ? At least it will have proper bearings. Cheers, Tony. |

ok. thanks for the replies. the reason i have it reverse is to keep the nut tightend all the time. in forward is kept loosing the nut |

Another issue is that most wipers use an offset brush for the low speed setting, and if you try and run it in reverse using that low speed setting-bad things happens... (let's sit down and have a smoke' type bad things) |

well, just get the thread nice and clean and put some thread lock on it, or bugger up the thread with a punch so it can't come loose, or give it a zap with a welder. Or if you have lots of time on your hands, drill the shaft and put in a split pin. Edited 2019-12-01 08:06 by renewableMark Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |
