Hey

Recently ordered a tube of silver conductive paint to repair a TV remote. First one I ordered of ebay never arrived, lost in China customs. Second order arrived today.

This is the item https://ebay.us/HySNs1

I made a little test spot, to see how long it took to dry and how conductive it was. Dry time was about 30 minutes, conductivity was zero! Open circuit, no matter how close I placed by test probes, without touching of course.

So I made another little blob, size of a small rain drop. Dipped the probes into the wet paint, open circuit!

Has anyone used this stuff before, am I missing the obvious, or have I paid $5 for a little tube of silver touch up paint?

Glenn

I had the exact same experience.

Tried to fix the heated rear window demister in my hatchback. The printed on heating element had breaks in a couple of places, and the magic e-bay silver conductive paint was supposed to be the usual fix.

Total failure, complete open circuit same as Glenn.
Somewhere there is a grinning Chinese now five dollars richer laughing at me.
Cheers,  Tony.

Maybe all the conductive particles settled in one side of the tube??

Try squirting it all out into a small container, stir it up well and suck it back into the syringe. Then try again.

The stuff I had was just like some paint.
A light fluid at the top and sludge looking stuff lower down.
I did give it a very thorough mixing.
But it was still completely useless.

I gave up and scraped the whole lot off with a single sided razor blade.

Then fitted a 300 watt fan heater to the rear window which works a lot better anyway.

I think it is more likely you have been ripped off and sold counterfeit/misleadingly labelled silver paint. I don't trust china for much like this - a mate of mine nearly lost the rear pulley on his Harley because of 4 out of 5 bolts labelled 5.5 tensile strength that simply sheared off... no way were they 5.5.

I have a bottle (5ml I think) somewhere that I bought from RS years ago and it is definitely conductive. You can also buy carbon loaded stuff for the same job if it is a high impedance application i.e. not bothered by fairly high resistance in the paint trace.

Yeah I've bought a few fake components of eBay over the years. I guess its the old You get what you pay for.

A few days ago I ordered this conductive paint from RS Components. https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/solder-pastes/8352699/ for $13.90. It was delivered by TNT yesterday, and last night I fixed a remote control with it. Works perfectly, next week I'll use it to restore some key switches on my old Microbee.
