Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I would not open the box and send it back.

its not that it is totally useless its just that it will never be a dump truck or a ferrari.
if you change the control board and the transformer and the case to turn it into a real inverter about all that is left is a few cables some heat sinks a few caps and mosfets and the power board.
I'm confused, no wait... maybe I'm not...

Yahoo2 thanks for your input
the wife is very happy to get this Power Jack 48 volt

she was very excited that she found one that we could afford

we been looking for one for a long time it's really hard to find a 48 volt 1 unless you want to pay around $1,000 shipping and all this one was under 350 bucks

The biggest thing we will be running is a mini split

If we can get 3000 watt continuous out of this we will be more than happy
she's already talking about rewinding a new Transformer for it

it may be junk for some people
but it put a big smile on her face
she's so excited to get started on it and that was worth the 350 bucks

Yahoo this will just have to do for us we just can't afford the good stuff and we both enjoy fixing stuff up

thanks again for taking your time to give us some input though

peace love good health and happiness to you

Just in case anybody wanted to know where I got it from
here's the website
he is a friend of mine
He is very honest a little pricey sometimes
but he will go through them for you if you want him to
so you know when you get it nothing lose and has been load tested
he makes a video of all of this
showing you everything inside before he sends it
if that's what you want him to do
he has loads and loads of power Jack inverters and also sells parts
the video of the one we are talking about is on there if anyone want to take a lookEdited by BenandAmber 2019-03-22

I got one that's probably 5 years old now in the ute (12v 8000w cont, 12000w peak)
Now I would say those figures are probably more than a little optimistic, but I still use it after 5 years, its run microwaves, tv's, a full sized fridge, a 3.5kw instant HWS heater (thats really nice when camping LOL), powertools (regularly)- hell I even used a stick welder on it once to weld a trailer back together!

I certainly haven't had any issues with it, but then I rarely take it anywhere near its limits- the welder and the HWS are the two heaviest loads its ever had

(btw if you are into camping those little 3500w instant water heaters are great for hot showers if your batteries are up to it or you have a small genny, I used to use the solar heater bag ones- they are okish, but no temp reg (and they can get bloody hot too!!!!) plus low flow rate and limited shower time...)

I use a shower tent- plug a hws into a small (7-10l/m 12v water pump in a bucket of water, fit a standard handheld low flow shower rose and tap to the heater outlet and have a nice hot shower (adjust temp by flow rate- hotter is less flow)- if you empty your bucket before finishing, just put the pump into the shower base and reuse the water (no peeing in the shower lol)

Camping with all the creature comforts!

It is fine if you have a use for it as it is and you can certainly fix it very cheaply if it dies .

it is just not a great starting point for a fancy home build (unless it comes from somebodies junk pile, then its perfect)

Boppa the instant hot water heater might just be the thing I was going to buy one of those but in the propane version for the RV I'm going to have to give the electric ones look over now thanks for the Post

Yahoo2 if you don't mind me asking what do you use and did you build it yourself I bet it has all the bells and whistles I would like to read about it if you have a post somewhere like give me some good ideas thanks again for posting

Depending on the size of the RV, for larger ones I would suggest a small storage tank HWS, plumbed into the engines cooling system or exhaust (or both) so waste heat from the engine will heat the HWS (I have seen some 4x4's with a similar system where they literally plug onto the battery for the pump and have a rinse off standing in front of the 4x4 with hot water from the engine heat)
like this 4x4 shower

I've seen a couple like this they had a small (30-50l) hws with a small 12/24v pump, circulating the water from the tank, down to either a cooling system intercooler (what boats use for fresh/salt water cooling) plumbed into the engines coolant system or one guy I saw had made his own up by wrapping water pipe around the exhaust near the motor and pumping water from the hws through that (he had put in temperature sensing with valves to shut off the flow once the tank was hot enough and even plumbed in an extra overpressure release valve into that loop just in case

Biggest advantage of doing this is you are using waste heat when driving to heat the tank so you have hot water when you arrive, and by using a small electric tank (often only 1200w -2400w) you can use either 'shore power' if available or inverter/solar or a genpack to heat it when parked up- some 'bus' sized rv's even put a thermal solar hws panel on the roof as well and use that for the hws as well...

Many ways to defurr a feline...Edited by Boppa 2019-03-29

Those are all really ingenious ways of doing it
the one that caught my eye the most was the solar hot water heater
if I can find the real estate for it

it has one of those small tanks in it right now

I was planning on maybe putting a dump load from the solar panels over to it so when the batteries are charged the solar will be used for preheating water to the propane-fired tankless all are good ideas thanks for posting boppa
