Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.
Good afternoon, and a very Merry Christmas to all.
I've a couple of 2 Kw inverters, they look fairly respectable, with Torodial transformers ,were sold by jay car .
They no longer are available.
Question is, anyone know of them ,has one, or knows of a repairer ,maybe. mine are 48 volt 2Kw.
Thank You

Hi Bruce,
My local solar guy (where I got the busted Aerosharps) told me the only brand he sends for repair is Latronics. All other brands they junk. Too hard to get replacement parts.
So you have two identical 2KW toroids now? That suggests to me a nice re wind project . You would get one 4KW unit that is more reliable (and repairable) and a lot of fun doing that.
Were your Jaycar inverters KIPOINT brand? I had a 24V version but sold that long ago (still working), it did not invite repairing when I had a peek inside.Klaus

Thanks. Klaus/Tinker..
I thought of building ,got most of the parts ,except the boards . I could always use my modified Toroidal, that I re wound for the Powerstar W7 ,long time back ?. ( Was thinking , could I just use the Powerstar case with my rewound Torodial and buy the Forum boards ?. all the other stuff is built ,as long as I can jiggle the boards around to fit in the powerstar case ?.
I've been crook last couple years, so all this stuff is sort of on the back burner ,about all I can manage nowadays is shuffle into the workshop ,sit down and look at all my lovely stuff ,(that needs attention).

Hi Bruce that 24 volt 3Kw KIPOINT I bought back in '05 has started spitting the dummy on inductive loads like my bench grinders and some time my drill press. No way will it run my small air compressor and it just goes into overload condition and starts beeping. After a couple of minutes it reverts back to working and sometimes it will start the inductive load.
Now as far as all of my machines that run on VFD's they run no problem and do for hours.
I did try my new Lincoln i131 caddy welder and like my last one it works fine on tig but where my old Lincoln Caddy wouldn't work on arc where this new one does. Now since I did that trial those problems started happening so I do think I may of slightly damaged the current sense part of the inverter.
Cheers Bryan

Hi Bryan , thanks for the Chrissie greetings the other day ,,, we are still battling along with a few health problems, but we'll get there!!!.
Probably you also need to build one of these forum inverters,?. They sound and look like being a fairly straight forward project ,now that Mark and his mates have done the hard yards . Plus, any glitches and they are only a forum post away ,and all of the builders would chime in , I'm sure .. I'll give it a go ,I reckon.
Huge storm came through here and rooted out one of our big fella trees,Like,,, bloody real big ,the root area alone is about 7 mtrs across , the tree is huge (make that WAS) about 60,70 feet , lost a few tiles and shattered our BBQ glass dining setting , poor insurance Co .. they hate me.
Anyhow, mate all is going OK ,Have a happy Christmas ,

Hey Bruce, sorry to hear you are not well, hope that improves.
Those 2kw units you have, are they not working?
Like Klaus suggested you could use the torroids to make one yourself. Poida's control board will be interesting once someone gets one running in the field. The Mad boards have been running my house completely off grid for 4 months now, starts anything you throw at it, with a nice sine wave, so no complaints from me. Trust me, my wife gives that unit (and battery) a bloody hard time.Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb

Hello to the inverter builders ,.
I'm sort of thinking that I'll use my existing hard wired and installed W7 Powerstar inverter ,(case only) to accomodate a set of your developed control card and power card...
Reason, well, my modified aero sharp toroidal is proven and fitted , the cooling fans are existing, the enclosure is fitted nicely where its easy to manage and accessible.
I'm fairly sure the backshed boards would fit ,somehow, maybe a bit more panel beating ,I'm good at that. !.
Mark , I read all the posts, so I'll keep an eye out for Poider,s new board ,and I'm keen on your boards ,as I know your wife has thrown everything at it ,and it still powers on !.
I'll be catching up with Aaron soon, so there's another smart brain to pick, lol.
First , I've got this huge tree to chop up ,can,t do it myself ,so there goes another bar of gold the kids won't get?.
keep safe in the new year,

Good stuff Bruce, just to clarify it the boards I am using are not my design, they are the Mad boards, I certainly don't have the knowledge or skill to design anything like this. Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb

Shoot me a PM with your email address and i'll send you a copy.
Keep in mind its a repair guide put together by jaycar staff for jaycar staff. so not a lot of info but enough to fix most faults with the units.
