I have been testing my Solar Diverter which will live inside an old 1.5kw AeroSharp GTI.

So far it works well I just need more panels, which i hope to add in the next month or so.

I would like to use the temp sensor that is on the original heat sink!

Is there any tricks to figuring out what it is or how to use it? (see arrow)

I've tried using it like a TMP36 but it does not appear to respond or change value.

Have you checked the resistance? I would not get too bogged down with it though temperature sensors are quite cheap.Edited by Madness 2017-12-28

Thanks Madness Im pretty new to the electronic side of things....

I measured the sensor, sensor wires are Red, Blue and Yellow.
Red to Blue is 1880k and goes down when the heatsink is heated.
Blue to Yellow is a static 40k
Red to Yellow no continuity.

With that in mind i found this

http://www.circuitbasics.com/arduino-ohm-meter/

So i think i should be able to sort that out!
Thanks

If you go ebay, I buy these by the hundred.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Good-Use-10PCS-Thermistor-Temperature-Sensor-NTC-MF52-103-3435-10K-ohm-5-DIY/122032518042?epi d=1475639255&hash=item1c69b4739a:g:TaQAAOSwjvJZWwnp

They are 10k@25c which seems to be the normal range type on a lot of devices I have come into contact with. I use two of these in the inverters to sense heat sink temp for the fan control and the 8010 TFB directly.

It is just a variable resistor but NTC ie the resistance drops as the temp moves up. If you make a voltage divider with the 5v from the arduino, with one of these in the leg, you have a temp sense voltage to play with.

Im currently triggering the SSR directly from the arduino output, which is working fine, but would it be good practice to use an optocoupler like a 4N35? to drive the SSR with a 12v signal from the main supply?

In this setup?
With the input as the Arduino output.
The VCC being the 12v

The SSR is an opto couple anyway, the ones I use say 3 - 32V 7.5ma input, it is only an LED so not much current is drawn.

I'm a fan of those 12V temp controller boards on ebay you can get for $2 shipped. How can you make stuff that cheap? Postage out of China must be 3 cents. Relay, display and sensor with adjustable time delays and differentials. It uses the 10K sensor and I just feed that voltage into the micro. Display makes it real easy to calibrate and set values into the MAP function.

Postage is probably subsidised by the Government to help international trade and bring more foreign money in.

Went shopping today! Came home with....
16 x 190 watt panels

A heap of rails! few different types i just took it all.

Another 3kw Aerosharp inverter, OMG i forgot how heavy they are !!! that makes 3 spare in the shed for future Ozinverters.

A BP badged Sunny Boy 1.5kw inverter, pretty sure its a transformer model as it was pretty weighty!

Also still to pick up the 8 x 190 watt BP panels that went with the small inverter. Car was to full to take all at once.

So now the first step is to fit 22 to my shed roof. Currently 8 up there but they need to move.

Where does everyone get their MC4 connectors from?

Don't see many Aerosharps advertised, they are getting to be like rocking horse sh*t.

I picked up 8x 190 watt used panels and a transformerless inverter ,all working ,plus disconnect unit for $370 .

Installer was telling me that in a year he would have not come across more than 2 heavy transformer type inverters.

So, they are getting very rare ,he is keeping an eye out for me .

Your connectors , I got mine in a 20 lot from e-bay ,so thats 10 pairs ,around $30 .

Also got a heap from ebay via chinese seller.
Ordered one lot and a month later nothing had arrived.
Contacted seller and they sent another lot which was here in 2 weeks.
2 days after they arrived ( ordered more) the first batch was delivered.

have to check how many I have left now. Been using a few and the panels I bought the otehr day have a few cut leads.
Kinda tells you the quality of the installer when they cut leads rather than just unclip them.

On that note, if you don't have some already, order yourself some of those plastic Solar connector tools. Save a lot of stuffing around if you have to disconnect stuff and some of the connectors on the panels are ridiculously hard to get apart without them.

That would be why they cut them, the installer is not paid any extra to remove them in perfect condition.

I buy MC4's on Aliexpress, so far I have not had one fail. There have been a number of times I ended up with double orders for the same reason. I think often it is the seller's fault for delayed shipment.

Cheers Everyone! Now for the cable!! I have just emailed all the electric wholesalers for prices.
Where do you all get your cable from? Local? or Online?

Cable is something id generally not skimp on?

Madness do you have a preferred supplier on Aliexpress for the MC4's?

This is where I got the last lot and they were fine.

Here is panel mount type too, took a bit to find these.

I'd look at it as taking pride in my work and not doing a hack job on anything.
With the right tool which costs $1.50, they come part fine. Taking the extra 5 seconds to unclip them is more about workmanship than time saving.

Most take them apart properly, some don't.
Seems telling to me.

Time is money and they probably aren't impressed having to take the old ones down, will be longer before they can go home.
