Hi Guys Has anybody played around with a Solution 16 house burglar alarm. Mine is about 15 years old. It has been operating fine but I would like to arm the unit using a key switch rather than the entry keypad. Looking at the installation instructions I believe I have set up the correct environment according to the installation manual. Turning the momentary key switch on doesn't arm the unit. Any ideas out there. Chris K |

I used to install them years ago, but its been that long ago, I cant remember the finer details... I know you can do it (either with a mom key switch as you have used, or even just a pushbutton) but the setting it up???- I'd have to see if I still even have the old manuals (doubtful) Its actually unusual to see a 16, the 8 was far more common in household use but functionally, they were pretty much the same |

ok found copies of the manuals online, I'd forgotten how much of a %&^% they were to find things in, luckily the memory started coming back once I saw the manuals again.. So you got the switch connected (JP5, 2 pins nearest the 2 LEDS as shown page 21 in the Quick install manual available at Quick Install manual Have you been into the programming at all (NOTE- Any mistakes when in the programming section CAN BRICK your alarm which required return to the manufacturer if it happens- if they even still exist and support such an old alarm!!!!) and yes I had to return the odd one or two back in the day... IF you want to get the alarm to recognize the switch, location 672 must be set to 4 for a momentary keyswitch, or 8 for a latching (on/off) keyswitch This can be found on page 161 of the Installers Manual Also handy (if you have an internal siren on the horn output and an external siren on the bell output (which is how I always installed them- others may not have done this), is to program 8 into location 665 (p152 of the Installers manual) this allows the external siren to remain silent, while the quieter internal one beeps once when alarm is disabled and twice when turned on eta Using the keypad to get into the programming mode can be found on p19 of the Installers manual, I seriously doubt you have the installers handpiece, I dont think I still have mine even (made life much easier) |

Hi Boppa Thanks for the post. I have the following: Location 666 Enable Radio Key/Keyswitch Interface or Night Arm Station = 1 Location 672 Latching Keyswitch Input = 4 and the momentary switch connected as per page 20 Momentarily pressing the switch does nothing. I would have thought I would hear the 2 beeps for arming and 1 beep for disarming. But nothing. Any other thoughts? Chris K |

ifirc 172 should be 3, not 4 3 is for momentary (pb/turn and release key) 4 is for latching (turn one way for off, the other for on) hmm hang on 4 is for vers 1.10 only, 3 is for vers 1.2 onwards- what version software are you using? |

Not sure of the version  as I cannot read memory location 999 as I don't have the programmer. I think it is version 1.10. Any other way of checking?I will give location 672 = 3 a try. What does the abbreviation ifirc stand for? The documentation I'm using is Solution-16 Safecom Installation Manual issue 2.10 Chris K |

Hi Guys Finally got around to confirming after several attempts to store 3 in location 672. This however has the effect of disabling the second group of eight alarms. I thought that the setting of bit zero to a 1 would still have these enabled. Wrong. I tried entering 3, 5, 9, 11 but none enabled the second group of eight. So back to square one. Boppa I don't suppose you have a keypad case hanging around. My unit had the little door flap ripped off by accident. Chris K |

No sorry, I stopped installing the alarms years ago, and having lived in a caravan for the last decade near enough, I obviously had to downsize my collection of `stuff' quite a bit... (the white whale is big for a van, but its still got to be movable if required- takes a 3.2 ton towrig to legally pull it!) |

She's not the biggest I towed, but its reasonably large, 26fter Here she is being repainted a few years back- took 18l of white paint....  (sorry for the derail) |
