Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

What would happen though if there was a failure and the CB tripped?

That resistor would burn out eventually. But the current it lets pass is quite low.

I used the voltage drop at the resistor as an indicator if all was well. If it dropped more than one volt across it into an idling inverter something was definitely wrong.

I did not want to confuse Mark again but its actually a 200A DC breaker *ahead* of the breaker mentioned that carries that resistor in my set up.

So the connections are:
Battery positive terminal - 200A breaker (33 R resistor across) - DC cable to inverter input terminal - 2x63A DC breakers (parallel) inside inverter - positive supply.

The negative connection is similar but no 33 R resistor and no 2x63A DC breaker.

I have this set up because I often had to disconnect the inverter from the batteries to work on it (until it ran ).

This makes it a bit safer IMO to tame those big currents.

I now have a 80A dc breaker, this has not tripped with big loads. I did have a failure recently due to GTI ground fault issues, the breaker popped and no damage beyond half the MOSFETs. In the past I had them exploding and PCB tracks damaged but now none of that. It does not pop when turned on either charging the caps, I just turn it on no resistors.

I've been thinking about your way Tinker, what would be an option is to use that resistor like you have but put a N/O momentary switch inline and label it prime, then you could whistle dixie for a couple of min, let go of the switch and turn on the supply.

Mark, consider the current this switch has to handle! It would be way over what is available in momentary switches.
Use a DC circuit breaker - it works.
