Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I documented my build - also with a couple of videos showing how I used an old bicycle wheel as a shuttle for the winding. You'll find it here Robin down under - or are you up over |

It's on hold at the moment. Money's been tight, Christmas and all. Having said that after reading though this forum and getting flogged with $1000 a quarter electricity bills. I have come to the realisation that I need more solar panels on the existing gti. I need to get my bills down as a first priority. We have just refinanced for some renovations I'm doing but the first thing I'll be buying is second hand solar systems for the panels and rails and if I'm lucky more Aerosharps. My current plan -Buy panels. To max out my gti. -Finish my load diverted so I'm not exporting when I could be heating water and my house. (It's all working. But I don't have enough panels and it's all still in breadboard) The money saved will feed into further work. -Build a solar gti throttle controller, like oztules and madness have done. This will end up being my battery charger. -Finish my ozinverter. Etc etc. Unfortunately I'm short on time and previously, money. Also I personally I have found I need to set myself goals that lead onto the next step and only concerntrate on that step othwise I don't progress well. So the double stack toroid with one winding on ready for the next one sits proudly on my bench to serve as a reminder of the overal goal. I'll be sure to document my solar upgrade! |

Hopefully you can progress soon mate. I see you had an 1.5kw aerosharp as well. Do they have the same size toroid? I started pulling apart a second 3kw one yesterday and the inside was made slightly different to the previous one. One of the transformers was potted with epoxy and the toroid had a cloth strap coming out the centre. Cheers Caveman Mark Off grid eastern Melb |

The 1.5 is smaller. I can take a pic if you like? I believe that unless you get an inverter made around the same time they can differ a bit. Probably due to refinements and changes to better margins in production. |

I started pulling apart a second 3kw one yesterday and the inside was made slightly different to the previous one. One of the transformers was potted with epoxy and the toroid had a cloth strap coming out the centre. I have seen 3 different versions of the Toriod in the 3KW Aerosharps, all had epoxy in centre, some had the strap to lift it. First 2 I unwound were slightly different, the label on it will be able to confirm if they the same or different. Those first 2 had slightly different core sizes, I ended up unwinding some off of one and putting it on the other to make them match. One of them was made of multiple short pieces overlapped when wound originally so I was comfortable doing that. A very easy way to separate the toriod from the epoxy is to leave it bolted in by the epoxy, disconnect the wires and turn the case so the front is facing down on the ground and lift up the end with toroid to about 45 degrees and drop it. The toroid will pop off quite easily, some take a few goes. There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |
