Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Thanks Yahoo There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |

Yahoo, I can only speak with certainty of the aerosharp inverter... as it is the only one i have to play with at the moment. I don't have a HF inverter to test. My hunch is that they will be more than good, as they have the buck boost in the front end, which with varying pulses, should present no problem, and in fact behave as a power factor correction device. I have been wrong before too.... but today it ran all day, and ran perfectly as a mppt 3 stage charger.... volts between 165v and 300v The 59v absorb stayed within .05v, and so did the float stage until the light got a bit flakey and died out after 4pm. I used 130000 for the timing delay... about 2 hrs. remember to use only LF inverter for the house inverter ...........oztules Village idiot...or... just another hack out of his depth |

I'll add to the derail myself, has anyone seen this? https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/virginia/other-electronics-computers/brand-new-solar-inverter-clearance-2kw-2-5kw-3kw-4k w-15kw/1124476951 We're currently clearing out old inverter stock and have the below models available. The stock levels were last updated on 11/07/17. Solartec 2kW Single MPPT 500V max DC - $110 (23 remaining) Solartec 2.5kW Single MPPT 500V max DC - $95 (17 remaining) Sunteams 3kW Single MPPT 500V max DC - $100 (33 remaining) Solartec 4kW Single MPPT 550V max DC - $110 (53 remaining) Solartec 15kW Single MPPT - $375 (1 remaining) LOL- makes me cry I was looking at 3kw offgrids for over $2 grand- if only gtis could be used for sure, 2.5kw for under $100.... 15Kw for under $400.... |

The 5KW GTI I am using was $5 at the local tip shop, looked brand new, when I fired it up it said it had made 1800 KWH which nothing. I thought it may have been replaced due to a fault but it has been running perfectly for about 3 months now. That was a bargain and I doubt I would ever get a deal like that again. It is running as a GTI connected to the AC side of my DIY off grid inverter. As that ad says "These are not Off-Grid or hybrid battery inverters. They are your stock standard grid-tied inverters." If you have magical powers with electronics like some people on this forum you might be able to hack them and get them running as a stand alone off grid. You can buy the chinese low frequency inverters for under $1,000 from china on ebay, or as I mentioned they come up second hand for around $400. Or build your own Ozinverter for around $500, with Clockmans PCB's and instructions. If you only need 3 KW you could build one for less than that. There are ready made PCB's that just need a transformer, choke, wiring and a case such as this one. There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |

If I could find some circuit diagrams of these gti's, I'd have no problems, but they seem to be hard to track down :-( As far as the electronics side of things go, Ive soldered a time or two.... Did my apprenticeship as an elec fitter on the trains, so learned on extremely high voltages and currents (1200VDC @ up to 20KA has quite a punch believe you me!) since then worked at two different companies as a bench tech, one I was half of the entire production line for PCBs and the repairman as well, the other I was the entire repair and assembly tech for a mining tech company, doing surface mount repairs and custom pcb assembly- I once calculated I was doing over 5000 solder joints a day.... Did time doing solar installs for off grid stuff back in the 90's, and worked as an autosparky for the last few years after the bottom fell out of the mines So I have some idea of which end of a soldering iron to pick up lol edit to add I got a 8KW chinese powerjack in the car for camping (dont ask...) but currently waiting for my house to sell and then buying new place out dalby way thats gong to be completely offgrid but currently most of my stuff is packed up in storage, which limits my experimenting somewhat- I dont really trust the chinese thing enough to run a house off it tho, plus being 12v, would be limiting battery bank to 12v, with the accompanying sized cables- not good when I want 5kw or more of panels.... |

I would guess the inverters are selling cheap because the company that makes them has decided to not renew their clean energy council accreditation for the older models. They are still legal to use but are not eligible for the installed system rebate for new systems. I have purchased a lot of new panels at a discount because of the same reason. I cant install them on a house but anything else is fine. I'm confused, no wait... maybe I'm not... |
