So I'm using the EG002 board in the inverter I'm building. The status LED on it will be invisible from the outside of the inverter box so I'm wondering if another LED could be soldered in parallel? This would be much easier than trying to unsolder the existing LED and fit leads there.

I did look up the EG08010 specs which said any output pin can sink a max. current of 25mA. A rough calculation tells me the on board LED draws around 3mA.

I'd appreciate confirmation this can be done, perhaps an external LED connected to the boards 5V rail and limited to 10mA max.?

No.

But you can solder another led and resistor in parallel, not just the diode.

Otherwise both leds will try to do the breakdown of the crystal through the same resistor, who ever breaks down first will hog the current, and the other will remain high impedance.... or if close specs, then perhaps both very very dull.... or oscillate between the two but dull for both.

With separate resistors, both will operate perfectly fine.

Thanks oztules. My bad syntax, I did plan to use a separate resistor and disguised that by the words "limited to 10 mA max" above, which to me meant a resistor has to be in series with the second LED.

I only have one EG002 board and wanted to make sure I'm not doing something silly with it. Your expertise with these things is always appreciated.
