Friends,

Scored a cap. with the following markings:

2.3 uF 450WVAC

nichicon

89vv

It has four spade connectors. This seems to be a cap. for 450 V AC?? Is the "W" designation similar to the "X" code for 240 VAC?? What is this thing?

Hi Dom

Yeah its a 450VAC cap. Good chance each pair of spade terminals ( closest to eachother ) is connected internally. Any chance of a photo?

Hi Domenic and Glen. The cap is okay for a bank. But its uF is very low and you will need about 200 of them. Keep looking in scrap metal and salvage yards for FLURO types which are ideal. Regards Dennis L

Thanks for the answers. Will keep "dumpsterdiving" as our friends from the "Coalition of the willing" call it!

Hi All
A question has been asked about different caps for different F and Ps. Early tests indicate their is not much variation between 50uF and 150uF. ALL THE F AND Ps OUTPUT DOUBLE mostly at low speeds. We are currently building a stepped variable uF bank. About 80 caps as we have had many bins to look in.From no caps then 54uF ,108uF , 162uF , and 216 uF. The intention is to prove exactly where optimum performance happens.Four different F and Ps will be put thru this We like and understand practicable things and do not like theories from people who are not doing the work.Similarly we have not got time to do test on 12 or 48 volt systems but they will show doubling once tuned. Kind Regards Dennis L
