Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Gizmo said   Tested one at a few different voltages. They work down to 6 volts with no change in intensity, but under 5.5v they dim and drop out. Over 18 volts the intensity drops off, and the current goes up, which cant be good! Some readings

6v, 630mA, 3.78watts
12v, 260mA, 3.12watts
24v, 440mA, 10.6watts

So at 24v I expect they would quickly cook and die.

It almost sounds like the PWM hit it's minimum duty, try increasing the inductor or adding more windings to it. If the IC can handle it - it could be that simple.

Would replacement of failed ones bring it back to life?

Probably some kind of heat removal could help here too.

I have a bunch of 12v 20w panels, bought em cheapish, as well as some of these lights.

My plan is to combine 3 of these lights, a 15ahr 12v battery, a timer/switch assy, solar panel and regulator. I believe I should be able to light the inside of my two sheds and not kill this battery size.

Reason for the timer, wife forgets (refuses) to turn shed lights off after use , old system is 12 v fluro, battery (old towmotor battery, N70 so called hybrid semi deep cycle?????) switch and 5 w panel.
The timer would be set for on off cycle 6pm-6am, this gives me a chance to see if any lights are on early evening.
Or is there a 12v push switch that powers on for 30-40 minutes?

The panel will get 7-8 hours of sun, about 4-5 hours full.

Is there anything I am missing. If I get this right she will let me go bigger with a semi grid connect hybrid for the fridge/freezer.

You can get electronic switches or just go to an electrical supplier like Middys or Lawrence & Hanson and ask them for a push button mechanical timer switch. Clipsal has several that could do the job and other manufacturers also.
