looking at a digital voltmeter on ebay Item ID: 251629002131 the voltage details confuse me Working voltage:4.5-30V DC and Measuring range: DC 0-100V 0-10A I want it to check what amps my wind turbine is supplying and also what voltage. i need voltmeter to read more then 30 volt. why do they mention 30 volt and 100 volt? ron |

Ron With an electronic digital meter you need to provide some power to it for it to function. For this item that is the Working voltage:4.5-30V DC at 20mA. These meters have limited capabilities. They can't measure every voltage that ever existed. So they state the range of voltages and current (Amperes or Amps or A) that it can measure. For this one it is Measuring range: DC 0-100V 0-10A So it can measure up to 100 volts and up to 10 amps. When you buy a cheap portable multimeter the working voltage is usually provided by a 9 volt battery or four AA batteries. When you buy a panel mount meter like this one on eBay it is often the case that the working volts must be isolated from the voltage and current that you measure. To run this meter you will have to run it from its own battery or get a small transformer which will output 6 to 15 volts, rectify it (4 diodes) and smooth it (a chunky capacitor rated at 100 microfarads and 25 volts working). thx Bob I just wanna connect it to my turbine to read what voltage and current it is supplying to my system. once my turbine supplies power wont that operate this voltmeter? regards ron |

Maybe. You may have to run this meter off batteries or its own supply which is completely separate from the voltage and current that you wish to measure. It depends on how the meter is built. |

i had one connected before 4.5 -30 volt, but it blew when voltage exeeded 30 volt. thats the reason i like to get one that measures up to 100 volt. but the working and supply voltage was confusing me, now I know what that means Bob. thank you. |

As long as Ron is not too fussy about the price that would be very simple to implement. Works on 0 to 60 volts. I wonder how it continues to operate when the voltage is zero or very low? |

I just finished this charge controller, and would like the voltmeter and amp meter for turbine to match the one I allready have to check battery voltage regards ron
