it definatly looks like a motor but it has alternator written on it so im a bit confused.
found it up the farm, if it is an alternator its missing the box on top that stuff plugs in to but it does have bare end wires sticking out so i guess its possible

Looks like a single phase alternator with 4 poles (1500 r.p.m. for output at 50 Hz).
Looks like 250V 40A?

You don't have success until you've tried it!
