Hi,

The Whirlpool forum with the topic: Huawei Mediapad 7 Lite (Coles, $136 and price is dropping) has not helped me so far with the following query:

This tablet contains a non-removable 4,100mAh Li-Po battery, which might become a liability. Do I have to have it on charge constantly once the battery conks out is my question? Isn't it a bit strange not to be able to buy a new battery? The advantage is a very strong alu case.

This is a Wifi only model, so no 3G, which I am using as an eReader. Coles used to sell you the Telstra NextG USB stick for an extra $10, so some enterprising souls sold the stick for up to $59 and got an extremely inexpensive tablet. This stick is now selling for $19 with one GB (30 days). Android ICS, GPS and more.

Another query: If I want to use this as a 7" GPS I need to drive the tablet and the broadband WiFi USB stick via the cigarette lighter. Jaycar sells a can-sized inverter for $45, which surely is modified sine.

Is modified sine going to upset the 240VAC charger for this Li-Po battery charger?
Is modified sine going to upset the Telstra USB+Wifi braodband stick, which I can plug into the provided USB socket of the inverter?

I imagine a laptop has a similar charger. I have been running my laptop charger from a modified sine 600watt inverter whilst on the road (which is most of the time these days) for a few years now with no problems.

Thanks MOBI. 600 watts! Surely not the cigarette lighter, must be a cable. 600W/12V = 50A.

Probably 5 years ago purchased similar 7inch Chinese tablet/navigator, it used Win CE and thus could run Oziexplorer CE version. Operated very good for a number of years until the internal LiPO (I think) failed. Has resided in junk pile since.

Replaced with a 10 inch Chinese elcheapo fleabay (Superpad) which uses the android operating system Oziexplorer Android runs on this. It also has an internal battery that to date(2-3 years) has given no problem. I use it a fair bit as has an external magnetised GPS sensor that resides on vehicles roof. I guess with a bit of buggerisingaround these batteries could be replaced, problem would be sourcing a size that fits.

There are available laptop 12v universal power supplies have a Targus that comes with many diff. adapters to fit most brands and voltages of laptops.

Is there reasonably safe method trying to open tablet to investigate type of battery before it fails?

I've got few items that I pulled failed battery out, connected red and black coated wire and have batteries outside.

Last resort solution would be to do the same with tablet should it be impossible to source suitable battery replacement.

(but tablet has to be opened first)
