Hi,

Following two power failures, one caused by my ignorance as the RCD tripped by leaving an extension cord outside BUT under a roof during rain and the other by a genuine power failure in the bush the same day I decided to have lights and TV (120W) when such a thing happens.

UPS: 36VDC, rating 1500W/2000 with four 240VAC outputs. Would the 2000 mean peak output?

The input is 240VAC 12.2A. As the power co. takes about four to five hours to fix the frequent faults I want one light (60W min.) and the TV (120W) to run or 180W for five hours or 1000Wh or 28Ah x 36VDC. Fridge will be off.

Any idea what the max. and min. SLA size (12V each) in Ahours should be given those figures? Discharging down 20% of capacity may be recommended? Please do not panic as I do not intend to kill a linesman by wiring it myself. My idea is to suggest a manual system, whereby I switch off the mains switch manually and the UPS will feed the supply after a manual connect to home supply.

Another question: When I experimented with the UPS I switched in the batteries first, then connected the mains to UPS, is this the correct sequence?

Thanks.

A further problem is that the SLA's that I saw at Jaycars have a recommended max. Amp figure listed. If I buy the SLAs too small I might just overcharge them in some way and vice versa.
