Hi everyone, I have a question for those more knowledgeable? What is a drop in replacement for the old IRF3205 Mosfet but with a higher current and voltage rating? I am looking at the IRF3306 as one possible choice. I would like to have 120 amp rating at 60 volts. The other Mosfets in my inverter are old IRF640B that also need replacing. It would appear the Infineon BUZ 30A H is a suitable replacement one for one with the IRF640B? Thanks in advance for any help. Robert |

An HY4008 TO220 will drop straight in with much better specs. If you look here you can enter the required specification and get a suitable replacement. You should look at replacing all the capacitors as well. There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |

Madness, Thanks for the link. Not much comes up other than IRF3205 variants. I was looking at the HY4008 but, think I would need to change the driving resistors? The 3205 is different from the HY4008 in specification. The inverter I am working on is a HF switching type made about 25 years ago. All caps are going. The old ones are 3300uf. The new ones from Rubycon are 4700uf at 25v. Robert |

Was your IRF3306 a Typo - that part is a TO247 package ? The IRFB3206 should be a drop in replacement (TO220) with much better specs than the original IRF3205. It has less than half the on resistance and more than double the pulsed drain current. I have used them in bulk in the past - mainly for synchronous rectification, and cannot remember ever having to replace a dead one. The data sheet is here If at first you dont succeed, I suggest you avoid sky diving.... Cheers Mike |
