I am bringing the subject up because I feel it is a very important subject

I would like to hear what some of you guys have to say about it

When you do a internet search on this subject you good lots of different results

And to be honest I just don't trust an internet search 2 something this critical

a ground fault interrupter receptacle will not work without a ground

I know I've been to several people's houses and their washing machine or electric stove wood shock them

99.9% of the time it was caused because of no ground or an incorrectly installed ground

These are problems I do not want to risk in a RV

Any knowledge on this subject would be greatly appreciated

And by the way I know I should know this but I'd rather swallow a little pride and make sure everything is safe

this is what I have in my caravan.

Here is another video.

Not cheap but 100% needed.

Hmmmm dunno if it will work on your 60hz 120v USA voltage.Edited by renewableMark 2019-05-06

That's interesting Mark, the stand alone inverter outputs have no concept of phase or neutral, the 230 vac output is fully floating just like an isolating transformer. Providing no one has connected an earth (frame caravan) to a pseudo neutral in the caravan switch board, then that seems to me to be pretty safe, any earth leakage RCD or similar device wont and cannot work in this situation.
Cannot comment on USA wiring here.

Good Day Mark,
Are you using a inverter in the caravan
if so is the inverter a stand alone unit or ,
is the inverter hard wired to the caravan outlets, with either shore power OR inverter to be selected by a rotary switch.

Another alternative is to use shore power, to charge the inverter battery bank
and then use only inverter to supply power to the mobile unit .

Some commercial inverters also control the maximium shore power that the inverter
takes ie 10 or 15 amps.

cheers john

Hi John,
the van is used off grid, out in the bush.
The inverters output goes to the RVD then through to the van wiring.

That is just a small 2800w HF unit, I didn't bother making one for the van.Edited by renewableMark 2019-05-06

renewableMark and others

I thought about it long and hard

the only way i can see to be able to do it other than RVD

Is some kind of sensor on the ground that reads voltage and if it senses any voltage on the ground it will kick them inverter off

And that's probably how that RVD unit work

Thanks all you guys for taking your precious time and thinking about this subject for me

Good day All

Ben almost all permanent inverter installation in mobile vehicles / boats that I can find
have a single common earth point for both AC and DC cuircuits.

As this is the first time I have tried to reference a web site , hope it is not ballsed up.
