This thing looks kinda interesting:

$39 DSO toy thing....

It's been tested, and can do 5MHz or so reliably, with bandwidth getting much worse much higher then that, but this could be a very useful small and cheap toy for the tool-box. Plenty of other pocket scopes only have 200kHz bandwidth or so.

Video review of the unit...

The next cheapest ones are the likes of this toy for $20!!!

This thing is only 20 bucks, but it has only 200kHz bandwidth, but would be ideal for testing audio amplifiers etc.

I was very tempted to dismiss this as another toy, save your money and put it towards a real scope. And that's probably still right. But, after watching the video I was surprised by how good it is. But it still has problem faithfully displaying a 1 Mhz square wave - it gets close. As a repair tool it could work. As a AUD$50 pocket tool to throw on the front seat of the ute to use to fault find stuff around the property - yes its probably is good

For me, I still covet the Rigol.

Cheers

Yes, I also agree - they really are just toys, but I can actually see the $20 one being useful for fault-finding or otherwise servicing audio gear, which is well within the 200kHz bandwidth of the cheaper toy.

The 20MHz one seems to average the waveform, so you can't actually use it to see what the waveform is doing at any one instant, and trying to find spurious signal faults or amplifier clipping on that one would be pretty much impossible, as the unit will average out the waveform, and it will show as perfect.

The cheaper one seems to have an instantaneous response, and you could therefore see clipping etc on that one, and it is the cheaper of the two!

I have a DSO201
A bit old now and I forget the specs.
There are a few versions of the firmware floating around.

Single channel and very handy for looking at various signals in the field.

It doesn't replace the Tektronix but it is worth the $20 or so.

I have the cheaper one. Yes they're more like toys, mine is a Jyetech dso150.
There is a newer firmware to put on it at some stage. Better than no scope, but not sure of its accuracy either.
I've used it for making a battery desulphator, which seems to just kill smaller automotive batteries!

2 channels would be a heck of alot more useful, love the portability of this little unit too.Edited by Ralph2k6 2019-04-20

They have actually produced a 2-channel one:

Still limited to 200kHz though, so probably not really that much more useful, and at US$80 for a kit, you'd be better off taking that eighty bucks and saving it towards a 'Real' scope.

But still - a toy 2-channel scope for under a hundred bucks.....

For $80, you could buy 4 of the $20 scopes and hot glue them on top of each other to make a 4 channel scope

I think that DSO 138 (or another clone) is what tinker has left attached for his inverters.

You are right, I have two of them. There is a perspex 'case' - has to be assembled, tricky job, available.
