Hi

I was hoping someone on here might be able to help me with a fault on my 48v 5000W Power Jack inverter. It has been running fine for about 1.5 years and last night it starting cycling on and off continually. It works fine on a 1kW load but when I try a bigger load such as my dishwasher or boiling the jug etc it runs for a few seconds then shut down and soft starts and just goes through this cycle continually.

I have 2 battery banks and both well charged so I suspect it is sensing an over current or maybe under voltage that is not actually happening. It has this problem when turned on from cold so I doubt an over temp problem as I have had it running fine for 30 minutes on a 1kw load

It has blown up twice in the past and I have repaired it. The first time I found one of the mosfet drivers coming out of the socket and the second time the on board fan controller didn't turn on and the mosfets let the smoke out. I now run it with two 48v cooling fans that are speed controlled via a 5v PWM control signal from a arduino monitoring a thermistor and it has been running this way for the last 18 months with no issues and supplying up to 3kw for short periods and over 2kw for long periods of time.

So can anybody tell me where abouts on the controller board I can monitor the over current shut down voltage to see if this is the problem or alternatively suggest any other possible causes.

many thanks

Ah Brian, that's way too cryptic an answer .

I happen to have the 8KW version of the powerjack which has never played up when it was used for powering the house. Its now retired to power just the lights.

But knowing just what had happened to yours could be useful for others running these inverters.

Sorry Klaus I should have put more detail in my last post but was in a bit of a hurry at the time.

The problem was due to an over current trip but it wasn't in the inverter which was working perfectly. I made the mistake of forgetting that I had an over current trip in my system as it has been there from the beginning and never tripped before and I also didn't realize that it was self resetting. So what was happening was that the device was tripping and would break the circuit and disconnect my load and then a few seconds later would reconnect and then a few more seconds later disconnect again and it would go through this cycle continuously.

So it was my mistake and I should have known better but sometimes it happens
