Have completed 2 new capacitor doublers, which will soon be installed on a wind turbine to finally get some real world data. Looking forward to seeing what these 36 pole stators can really do

Here are 2 photos of the finished product.

The first is 24x 270 uf (average value) DC capacitors which add up to 270 uf AC for the 6x feeds connecting to the 4x rectifier bridges. The stator as per photo is a 2x 6p Delta.

The second is 48x 277 uf (average value) DC capacitors which add up to 554 uf AC for the 6x feeds connecting to the 4x rectifier bridges. The stator as per photo is a 6x 2p Delta.

The capacitors came from written off F&P Smart Drive motor control modules so no cost for those parts and hence the large number used. Each capacitor is within 0.25 % of it's back to back pair. They were individually measured with a meter, then labeled and put into a spreadsheet. Some values were as low as 260 uf and some as high as 290 uf. By closely matching the capacitors can achieve precision tolerance accuracy.

The big advantage of building them this way, is they have form a of built in redundancy with no single point of failure and also very symmetrical.

Run both up to just over 400 RPM with power output reaching 700 W. Measured the residual DC voltage over each capacitor. Voltages were no greater than 5 V on 48 cap version and 10 V on the 24 cap version.

This should make them last longer.Edited by DaveP68 2017-06-03
There are realities if you do not accept, will lead to frustration because you will be spending time on wrong assumptions and the results cannot follow! The Dunning Kruger Effect :)

I'm confident it will, but you don't know what the real world results will be until it's up and flying. One thing is certain there will be 5 days of no wind when the wind turnine is put up

One other thing I forgot to mention is the capacitors are all rated at 250 VDC so they can take the required pass through AC current.
