Hi, I thought it might be best to start a new topic. DaveP68 recently asked: I've posted most of the progress on this turbine on OP, so rather than restate things I'll put some links below. Briefly it is a dual-axial, 16-pole PM turbine on an 85' guyed tower. It feeds two MPPT MS Classic 250 charge controllers via two isolated, full-wave diode stud-mounted bridge rectifiers. It cuts in at about 90 rpm and 59VDC and tops out at about 230 rpm and 140V. Each controller is set up to handle about 2.6 kW. Kind regards, ~ks http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php/topic,149124.0.html http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php/topic,149071.0.html http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php/topic,148058.msg1026285.html#msg1026285 http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php/topic,147846.msg1023897.html#msg1023897 |

Hi kitestrings This sort of data is of interest to me as it related to actual wind turbine performance using MPPT etc. So many thanks for making it available and have to say one very impressive set up! For the PMA part as you have picked up, I'm only interested in the F&P 36 pole copper stators with back cap, as I can get them in reasonable numbers for free. Just add more to the shaft if you require more power(within limits of course). Cheers David There are realities if you do not accept, will lead to frustration because you will be spending time on wrong assumptions and the results cannot follow! The Dunning Kruger Effect :) |

The Classics are a quasi MPPT approach. They don't monitor wind speed in real time, or periodically the way you might sweep a PV array, and then find the sweet spot. Wind changes are of course comparatively much too fast. Instead they have a 16-step, user-programmable power curve. The controller then looks at Vin (from the rectifier) to the controller and attempts to follow the power curve. I've fiddled with the settings quite a bit. This is what ours currently looks like: MEM_6 MEM_6 03/11/17 03/11/17 Classic A Classic B step amps volts amps volts 1 0 58 0 85 2 1 62 4 102 3 3 66 8 105 4 6 69 12 108 5 9 72 15 111 6 12 75 18 114 7 15 78 21 117 8 18 81 24 120 9 21 84 27 123 10 24 87 30 126 11 27 90 33 129 12 30 93 36 132 13 33 96 39 135 14 36 99 43 139 15 39 102 47 143 16 40 103 52 150 The first unit (Classic A) current limits at 40A. The second one wakes up at 85V and fully takes any incremental power, over the 40A mark, above 102V. I hope this helps. ~ks |
