Neat looking, but at around 7 turns per coil i can only expect a 12v or lower mill at high current, also have you tried to buy flat copper wire? it is not easy to find at a cost effective price. All the same it looks neat, even if its not very practical for a home build. Pete. Sometimes it just works |

Looking at the photos I would say it would be good as a teaching tool, to explain how alternators works, etc. I dont think it would be very efficient, or last very long as a windmill alternator. But is does look nice. A better alternator would be something industrial, like a F&P Smartdrive, electric hub motor, big servo motor, etc. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. I've been using my vertical mills on an electrolytic cell. it loads the mill on as little as 2 volts. at wind mill rpm this helicopter alternator could work for electrolysis |

its a 48 volt alternator.... will it work with mppt to charge 12v or 24v batteries? |

Guys, its a teaching tool only. 750w at 3000rpm! It would be cooking itself at that power, and 3000rpm is totally useless for windmill applications. Windmills need a cut in speed around 100 to 150 rpm, and max speed around 500 to 800 rpm. You could use gears or chain to gear the alternator up, but your looking at a 1:10 ratio! For practical reasons, a 1:2 ratio is about as far as you can go before losses take over and drain you power away. If you take something like a F&P Smardrive motor, it has a cut in speed between 50 and 150 rpm, depending on how you configure it. It has a approx 1 watt to rpm ration, so at 300rpm, its making 300 watts. And you cant kill it with a stick. Thats why its a popular choice for a windmill alternator, and can be picked up for free if you look around. 750w at 2200 rpm i think its totally doable with a 1:4 gear ratio.... cutin at 500... still the specs looks better then the diy in my opinion. |

You are going to be very disappointed and you are wasting your time. Results on a test bench are very different to results on a windmill. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
