I sinned buying a Chinese made wind turbine from Wuxi Naaier in Beijing.
Although it is mechanically well built its electrical output is dismal. 1/2 amp on a normal day with 20 kph wind and a max of about 3 amp in 40kph gusts.

After the suppliers fobbed me off several times and he postage back to China is astronomical I've decided to pull it apart and see if the stator windings can be modified.

Any ideas are welcome and if I have success, will post the results here. It might help another unsuspecting person sucked in by Chinese rubbish.

Ive even wondered if the basic infrastructure can be used and added to a F&P generator but had no reply from the forum. Im prepared to through money at it but short of ditching it for a new Silent Wind generator at $2000 the options are limited.

Can you link us to a similar unit.

I have an old china 600 watt genny and a new one (like you see on back of boats)

The old one is keeping up with lights and internet.

I have let the little 500 watt one down. Too much power all my cardboard boxes and buckets are full

See standing big china in this forum for photos.

I winged about the little one making so much noise. Removed the controller and ran it through a 3 phase rectifier and silence. The controller may have been PWM hence the noise.

Other than a lack of wind some days and put the wind up me in a storm, I am happy with mine.

I have some photos of the winding inside mine some place in the computers or hard drives or the camera (which is hiding at the moment)

Interestingly enough mine is also om my boat and rated at 400watt 12vac with a 3 ph rectifier. I must say it runs well with the slightest breeze and looks pleasing.
I have since installed 300W splar panels that copes with all my needs on sunny days and the battery banks are still new so it survives the cloudy days well this far!
If your wind charger is working well there must be something wrong with this one unless you get more wind than here in Sydney.

I feel sure they achieve the 400W rating by parrallel coil connection.

The idea is to incresae the voltage to 20vdc at 200rpm and suffer a rating reduction in the process.

At the end of the day its a matter of how the stator coils are connected

Tbanks for you reply I will get a link to the manufacturer posted.

This is the link to the Wuxi Naier charger I bought for $500. At a fith of the price of a Air X, I was willing to give it a go and regret it very much now!
But it should be an interesting project. If a F&P can be reconfigured then so can this one

Make sure it is not up to scratch.

what about the rectifier, is it lazy?

Leave it up and Hook some lights up to it, like three the same, one on each phase and watch them fluctuate.

All three should be similar, then add your rectifier and drive the lights again

Before you pull it to pieces can you take the blades off and drive it in a lathe or with some motor and belt.

Get a cheap 3 phase rectifier and load it up.

I just love headlights or any bulbs to test everything. you can really "see" if they work.

To get 30 amps or more out of it firstly you will have lost your hat and your glasses in the blast of the wind, second it has to be straight into an ammeter. like direct drive the ammeter and nothing else. the wires will get hot too.

I suspect they rate solar panels the same way - short circuit current equals....and max output voltage (read not connected to anything)

A flat battery will show more amps but as it charges the amps fall off.

When battery is 12 and the genny is 12 so equal no charge happens. That is why cars are set at 14.2 volts as are battery chargers.

Very interesting comment thanks! I will manually run the turbine up to 200rpm and hope to get 20vdc.I swear by the 200/20 rule! I got a nice laser rpm meter from bay and will use a drill to run it up. Also like your bulb idea!

The Chinese blamed me for specifying 12vdc when I ordered the turbine.
I agree it should be 14.4 volt to make a difference. Also because my battery banks are new and have never been under 12.2vdc they also corectly made the point that this will limit the current.

Funny enough the solar panels pump 12amp every day into the same bank and at night the wind turbine sits on half amp in 20kph wind. Must admid its silent and you csnt hear a thing...wonder why? Lol!

Anyway thanks for your suggestion I will take it on board and will do some testing before I strip it down.
It may well land in the bin as I have little patience with it!

Yes indeed. Lamps of all sorts can be used for fault tracing. Best invention ever for trouble shooting. And saves an arm and a leg in fuses

One phase has slightly lower voltage and it can be seen by a dimmer lamp.
I measure 10.9 VAC using a Fluke true rms meter as opposed to 11.9 on the remaining 2 phases. Also there is no earth. Just the 3 phases of the star connection.
After the rectifier I get 12.9 Vdc and the battery bank is 12.36vdc in the morning.
As you suggested in an earlier post the voltages are so close that results in a low current flow.

I want the Turbine st 14.4vdc so that it can take the load over night while the regulator will look after the battery bank.

Can you contact Voila Yi at the supplier and purchase another stator from spare parts?

Go with "I got one once and my situation has changed needa bigger stator" ect how much - Please Thanking you for your wonderful service......

Get some quotes.

I got an acquaintance with a auto electrical business in Brisbane who rewinds antique generators and starters. I guess you could give up an arm and get it rewound in Sydney.

Or pull it to bits and see if you can squeeze a few more turns into it. maybe rip the wires all out and do a better job your self.

What about the voltage doubler at Gordons cap mod on this site, seems to boost the voltage quite well, a few of the gents have them.

Many thanks for your interesting reply!
I have done just that tonight and contacted Viola at Wuxi Naier for advice on a stator upgrade. I would even consider a 24v upgrade at this point.

The voltage doubler a good option and I might leave rewinding as a last resort. Ive done it before and its a cow of a job! Specially as the windings are sandwiched in layers of 3. There are 36 coils and 12 permanent magnet poles.

Its configured in 4 sets of 9 coils in parallel to give the 12v with a max rating of 400w. Not that it means much other than wire size..

If the voltage doubler you suggested does not cut it I will try to connect the windings in two strings of 18 coils figuring it should raise the voltage and lower the current rating.

Thanks again for valuable info and ideas! Much appreciated and I will get the voltage doubler right away as a first effort.
