Can anybody tell me how long you can expect from the bearings that come standard on F&P motor, bearing in mind it depends how much wind there is! They are mounted in the original plastic housing (machined down) and I have them reasonably well protected from the environment. You can see the shaft arrangement here. Hi Sod Buster If you have used new high quality bearings they should last at least ten years, in the old days I pulled wind turbines to pieces to replace bearings and do a service and found the bearings still in good condition after 20 years service. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Thanks Bob, I used the bearings that came with it and its been running now for 2 years just wondering when I needed to replace them. Maybe should have done what you suggested and fitted better one, still running perfectly sweet. A professor is someone who knows more and more about less and less |

Hi domwild Thanks for your comments. I have only recently acquired a regulator/controller and dump load which I now have installed. Previous voltage regulators were home made and less than reliable. Dump load is a triple element water heater. Check out latest version of diagram ( not finished yet )

Hi Sod Nice circuit drawing in MS paint, it can be a good tool once you have mastered it . As for the bearings, next time you have it down knock the bearings out or you could even leave them in position, and use a little pointy thing like a small screw driver to carefully pop the bearing seal out, give it a good wash out with kero or whatever solvent you have. Then repack with fresh grease and push the seal back, good for another 5 years. Hi Yahoo I don't have a stop switch the automatic furling system combined with the manual furling system I made. So far it works a treat and leaves me totally in charge, as long as i'm their to close it down in high wind conditions. Often wonder how long it will survive as it furls on and off almost continually in gusty conditions which we have had here for last couple of weeks. Great for generating but causes a lot of resonance in the tower. Have thought of stop switch but would fear damaging the stator or burning out the cable from tower down.
