some sites n state vertical are better more efficient less wear more electricity other sites say horizonatl are better ???? |

i like vertical mills because of the way they look but any site that says they are more efficient than a horizontal is blowing smoke a Darrius type may out perform a horizontal farm type mill for efficiency i doubt it would for longevity. |

darius would be expensive with airfoil blades how much is a big one 50 kw 100 kw they state that they produce more electricity than an hawt is this right i just got a quote for an aerolos at $52 kfor 50 kw and 100 kw at 1111111 etc |

Darius's have many engineering challenges beyond the home builder. Yes they can make as much power as a HAWT, but are difficult to control and maintain, which is why you wont see them at any recently built wind farms. HAWT's are easier, much easier. I have a Darius system that is working very well for several years now, and any home builder can build it. What engineering challenges are you referring to ? And I found they can make as much or even more power as a HAWT, at a lower speed and are not difficult to control and maintain if designed properly. MrDelanco:Project Videos It is not only too know what it does but to understand how it does what it does. |

The engineering difficulties relate mostly to large scale systems, but small Darius's also offer problems compared to a standard HAWT. It's the reason Darius turbines are rarely seen. They can make more power, true, but are much harder to build compared to a HAWT. The full size Darius turbines were abandoned because of the low frequency vibrations destroying bearings and blade assemblies, and several cooked brake assemblies. A HAWT has a relatively smooth cycle per revolution, a Darius has several power pulses per cycle. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
